Hello, does anyone have experience of using Gigaset base stations, like the Gigaset DX800A for instance?
That's a base station which can take a normal POTS phone line plus a number of Voip lines.
Asking because some of the online stuff is a bit vague.
It says the unit connects daily to gigaset.net - I'm not really keen on that.
One concern would be any restriction to using a third party Voip provider, like Sipgate or Voipfone or many others.
Also, the manual constantly talks about ISDN - goodness sake, I thought that was dead and buried.
Any feedback about these units would be appreciated, thanks.

Not specifically the DX800A, but certainly the much longer in the marketplace N300 IP (and N300A IP) which are great units and you can still get them on Amazon for around fifty quid.
ISDN is/was a big thing in Germany so probably why it's mentioned.
The N300A IP I would still highly recommend. My last remaining one is probably now nudging 9 years old and the other one got killed by a lightning strike, but was otherwise gold.

Thanks Pheasant.
I might just go for the N300A-IP. Price wise you just can't really go wrong.
Ref the ISDN - yes wasn't thinking. I actually used to sell loads of ISDN stuff into Italy. But that's years ago.
Cheers.

As with Pheasant - experience of the N300A IP which is great. 1xAnalog and 6 VoIP, plus 6 cordless handsets.
Any reason you need a desk phone?

Give LIGO a call or check their Amazon listing. I have always have pretty good pricing and service from them.

Thanks MHC,
Desk phones not needed. Although some structure is needed, that is that these phones would "belong" to the office/s .
Individuals welcome to use their mobiles. But especially for incoming business calls, where there can be different staff on different days, these phones would be bound to the office, not to the individual.
Yes I've been looking at Ligo this morning, some good bundles. Need to firm this all up and decide on the right bundle.
But yes thanks to those recommending the N300A-IP. It's comforting to have confirmation from people who have used these items.

The N300A IP allows you to direct specific incoming lines to different handsets if you wish - so Handset one could have Lines 1,2,3; H2 > Lines 1,4,6; H3 > Lines 3,5 &c. There is a limit on max calls in progress though.
My N300A Ip was fine untill it was hit by several hundred kV .... replaced with te same and all fine again.

Can anyone recommend some relatively cheap N300A compatible handsets?
I have a couple of rubbish ones that came with the eBay deal I managed to get (£25 all in), but would like some different handsets if possible.

I have SL450H, S850H and C620H handsets on my system - all are fine.
Use https://www.gigaset.com/en_en/cms/service/compatibil... to chose base and handsets to check compatibility.

Have configured a Gigaset DX800A. Accepted the credentials for Voipfone with no issues. Somewhat tricky to configure which maybe beyond a newbie to VoIP. It will do everything that a N300A IP will do and a lot more. I see the main advantage being dedicated keys for popular functions, a BLF display and an easy accessible call history. The internal phone directory may possibly hold more entries than a N300.
The DX800A has been around for quite a while now and may no longer have firmware updates. It can be an internal extension of a N300A IP bundle. There is much to recommend the phone except for its price.

Last job lot I bought was a quad pack of S810's in 2015....they were about £50 each from Ligo. Discontinued/superseded now I think.

The C430HX is a good low cost handset and pretty similar to the S850HX but a bit cheaper.
The S650HX Pro is great too, but seems to cost lots just for having the word Pro in the title.
If you want something rugged the RH630H or R650H are great, not tried the E630H but should be fine too.
All should work fine with an N300 (A) IP - or the same base unit is sometimes called a GO-Box 100

If only I could convince my other half to ditch the landline then I'd hope this is the last set of such phones I'll buy! 😀

Don't forget, the landline will feed into an N300A IP as well as the VoIP services so you will have all on one handset.

Yeah thanks, I'm ditching the landline as of next week.
It's being ported to Sipgate
I *think* the existing cordless handsets are DECT and may be able to be registered with the N300A anyway (but will need to test that out). One of them has buttons that don't really work so would be a good opportunity to replace.

Get the Groundwire app for your smartphone and load the Sipgate credentials onto that. You can have multiple sign-ins (ie the n300a base and Groundwire) with Sipgate.
Pretty sure in a few months you will have ditched the physical handsets. The new apps are brilliant.

Does Sipgate Basic support the push notifications though?
I looked at it recently after you'd suggested on another thread and was about to buy the app...but this page suggests it doesn't support them:

All the native Android/iOS push notifications are done by Groundwire SIPIS servers in the background. App doesn't need to be running at all.
So effectively the call registration is done like so:
PSTN/Whatever ------>Sipgate---->Groundwire SIPIS------>your smart phone
..........................................----->N300A------------------>your DECT handsets
The SIPIS servers keeps the registration alive with Sipgate servers, for calls to your smartphone.
Because there are effectively 2 simultaneous SIP registrations (one for Groundwire and one for Gigaset N300) at Sipgate then inbound calls are alerted simultaneously on both streams.

Got you. Thanks Pheasant.
Any idea which of the iOS apps it is?
There's:
https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/acrobits-softphone/id3...
And...
https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/acrobits-groundwire/id...
I assume the second one?

Groundwire just has conferencing and call transfer features, which Softphone does not. That's the only difference, both support the same core functionality / push features etc. Its a 2 quid one off uplift for Groundwire.

Great advice as ever Pheasant, thank you.
I've gone for the cheaper option, simply because I can never see us using conferencing & call transfer on our residential landline service.
As you stated, it works a treat (i.e. app not running in the background but it still rings when the number is dialled).

Acrobits was a breath of fresh air after years of frankly [censored] VoIP soft phone apps.
Glad you're pleased Miles.

Acrobits was a breath of fresh air after years of frankly [censored] VoIP soft phone apps. Was following this thread and have just bought it to move my SIP number to the mobile from my Cisco ATA. Very impressed - thank you!

You’re welcome. It’s a really clever supporting infrastructure they’ve put together. There was a diagram floating around somewhere, but I can’t find it now.
There’s lots of things I really like about it like the ability to run multiple simultaneously functioning SIP registrations. I’m super impressed with it.
