Gigaset N300A with Panasonic Handsets

[link to this post]

Hi all, newbie both to this forum and the world of VOIP! I'm switching over to full fibre and and taking the opportunity to migrate fully to VOIP. I've been playing around quite a bit and have most things working now (three VOIP accounts, a Gigaset N300A + one Gigaset handset). I have two newish Panasonic Handsets which I'd like to use as well - I have figured out how to deregister them from the old base, attach to the new one, and make and receive calls. So far so good.

But I'd also like to use the answering machine built into the N300A - problem is that if I have the Panasonic handsets configured to ring on an incoming call (which is kind of the point!) then it seems that they prevent the answering machine kicking in.

Am I missing something, or am I going to have to spend yet more money on Gigaset handsets?

TIA.

Try setting one of te incoming VoIP accounts to be directed to just the one Gigaset handset and see if that works. If that works then possibly new handsets or find a Panasonic config that stops it. If it does not work, you may have a setting on the N300A incorrectly configured.

Thanks for the response. I only have one active incoming VOIP line (3 outgoing) - if I tell the N300A not to send incoming calls to the Panasonic then the Gigaset phone/answering machine works correctly. I've been all through the settings (that I can find!) on both the Panasonic Handset and the N300A and no joy so far - hence asking here if anyone had experience of making this work!

At the end of the day there is a guaranteed fix which is to buy more Gigaset handsets but they're not cheap!

Sounds to me like you’ve hit the limit of the GAP (generic access profile) that the Panasonic handsets use to register with the Gigaset base.

Certain products features and especially their interaction with other product feature will require use of the more feature/function capable “native” DECT profile used by Gigaset phones and bases.

GAP profile really only guarantees very basic call handling functionality. Gigaset themselves say;

“Cordless handsets that support the GAP standard can be registered to any GAP-compatible base station. This guarantees at least the simplest functions such as registering the handset, answering the call, establishing a connection and ending the connection.
In general, it cannot be guaranteed that other services will work when combining different devices, except for these basic functions themselves.”

Yep, agree completely (and I'd found those very words myself!). I was fully expecting not to be able to access messages from the answering machine, for example, but I have to admit that I hadn't expected that the presence of the Panasonic would stop the native handset from working normally (in respect of the answering machine). But there it is.

I just thought I'd ask!

You may find someone who’s found a solution…maybe

But if it’s important to you, then as you said, the guaranteed fix is to shift to Gigaset handsets.

Ligo are pretty competitive in my experience. Good luck.

I have some redundant Panasonic DECT handsets because only basic functions such as making and receiving calls would work with an N300. I found the cheaper Gigaset C430 handsets work well enough for my use. I think it has been replaced by the C530 There are more expensive and fancier handsets.
