Number Port Success following FTTC to FTTP migration

[link to this post]

Good Afternoon all,

I have been a long time lurker on these forums however I've recently ported my landline number following a FTTC to FTTP migration, I wanted to share my success story in porting my landline number.

Please note this is not a tried & tested method so it is not guranteed to work, I had already agreed with my ISP (EE) that I would lose the number as part of the migration to FTTP.

27th March - FTTP installed & live.
28th March - Order submitted to port the number to Andrews & Arnold VOIP.
4th April - Number ported sucessfully to A&A.
Present Day - FTTP still working & no early termination fees from EE.

Any questions please get in touch.

Regards,

Liam.

I’m guessing your FTTP is not with an Openreach based provider?

I did similar in 2019, moved my old Plusnet phone number to A&A VoIP when I had a new service installed from Virgin Media.

Based on:
" I had already agreed with my ISP (EE) that I would lose the number as part of the migration to FTTP."
I would assume Liam has upgraded to FTTP whilst staying with EE.

There are a couple of posts on the Plusnet forum that indicate it is possible to transfer a landline number to VoIP immediately after upgrading to FTTP.
One being:

My FTTP provider is still the same (EE) who are Openreach based.

Thanks for the link, does seem like there is a small window post migration. I wonder if the number going back into a pool to be reallocated/ported, I didn’t have to supply the account holders details (my wife) or rights to the number via an existing bill.

Liam.

Did you request a port of the original number to EE? Or did you order the EE service without voice, or with a new phone number?

Originally I ported the number from AA FTTC then to BT, then to EE FFTC, then to AA VOIP once the EE FTTP was live.

Good to know this is available, it must be relatively new.

I simply not buy this 'short window pool' holding of the number. Demand for 'landline' numbers must have fallen off of a cliff in recent years, it's not like it was 25 years ago, with demand for huge lumps of DDI and Fax numbers being requested. I would imagine if you relinquish your landline number, it's never be reused.
