VoIPify & Free Calls

[link to this post]

I have been a VoIPify customer for a number of years and paid for each number plus calls as used. Call rates are excellent and makes up for the number rental charge. Service from them has been excellent too.

Today, I received a nice email from them:

Dear Xxxxxx,

As part of our service improvement plans, from 1st May 2023, your account will automatically include 200 minutes of free calls.

These minutes will automatically apply to all 01 and 02 mainland (England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland) but excluding Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey. Any calls made in excess of the 200 minutes will continue to be billed at our standard rates, which have not changed.

Where an account has multiple extensions (devices), these are shared between all devices as the allowance is per account.

If you have any questions regarding this change, please do get in touch and we will be happy to assist further.

VoIPify

Another reason to recommend them as a provider.

I would second that.

Last year: When I was searching for an alternative to Sipgate on another thread and after a recommendation by MHC I opened a Voipity Account in 2022 and now I have both accounts running on an N300a.

None of that Open Ended Direct Debit risk.

Regarding Voipify; I did not like it, (last month), when Voipify put the base price up by 60p to £4.80 per month (including VAT) before calls but this new decision to add 200 minutes of free calls could be a game change for Voipify as since they provide a good service their customer base should increase.

Voipify provide a good VOIP Phone service and at base cost of £4,80 per month (including VAT) for one line with 200 minutes of free calls and generally much cheaper call rates after that I am quite happy to stay with them.

The Voipify Website if hard to find and when you carry out a search you seem to be redirected to others but it is here;

https://www.voipify.net/?mtm_cid=235201820&mtm_kwd=&...

After the 200 free minutes of free calls, (which starts on After 1st May 2023), is used most call rates are cheaper than others, (if you ignore 03 calls which can cost almost 2p per minute including VAT). UK calls are only about 0.6p per minute including VAT and the call rates ex-VAT can be found here;

Shouldn't 03 calls fall under the "landlines" rate?

I would presume it was for both new and old customers but I do not know.

A thing that I like about Voipify is that, (unlike Sipgate who I still have Sipgate Starter with), Voipify do respond to phone and email queries in a timely manner so it would be best to ask them before signing up.

Once again; I don't know if 03 numbers are included in the 200 free minutes; Personally, I suspect that 03 numbers are not included since the Voipify 03 rate per minute was around the same rate that other VOIP providers charge for all calls and the Voipify call rate for 01/02 numbers was much lower than other VOIP providers at around 0.6p per minute including VAT.

weird pretty sure it was unless they changed it lol
Anyway ditched it because lack of reviews. Think I will go with A&A, just want to find out if I can port my old number to them at a later date if I sign up now with another number they provide.

Looked at Voipfone but they change £3 a month for ported numbers, I thought it was a one off charge for porting and then just call charges after. Think AA port for £15 then 1.50 a month.

A small clarification for Voipfone
Porting a number costs £20 + VAT
Monthly charge: £3 + VAT

Maybe AA is cheaper but without knowing the call costs for each company, it is difficult to know, Certainly with Voipfone, calls between subscribers are free.

What worries a lot of people is that with AA you can't cap your call spend; a useful feature against fraudulent use of your account.

There are call plans with Voipfone but I have found that they would not save me any money against PAYG.

I haven't included the porting cost as its a one off charge.
AA will work out cheaper as their monthly charge is only £1.73 with VAT a number. I emailed them to ask if I can port my number over at a later stand and they said it is fine as you can cease the number you sign up with.

Voipfone works out as £1.80 a month for Flex and £3.00 (£5.40 with VAT) for a number ported over. So that £3.60 odd extra could go on calls with AA.

Although Voipfone have the cheaper calls out of the two.

Voipfone:(not sure if they include VAT)
To call a local a number it shows up as

Cost Per Minute: 1p
Connection Cost: Free
Minimum Cost: 1p (inc mobiles)

AA:
Make calls to +441296 for 2.4p minimum charge
1.5ppm peak
1.25ppm offpeak
1ppm at weekends (Including VAT).

I read somewhere you can set the account to 0 if you don't want any outgoing calls. Might just have an account with a afew pounds in it so don't get charged extra once its empty, if that will work.

When looking at the above comparisons my eyes started to bounce together and Voipify was not compared with the other two.

Let us look at what each of these three would cost per month for one line, (including the monthly line cost, all call costs and VAT), per month for a user who makes 300 01/02 calls per month.

Per month: Including the line cost, the cost of making 300 call minutes, (as above), including VAT for Voipify, AA and Voipfone this works out as follows;

Voipify = £5.40

AA = £5.94

Voipfone = £ ? (I could not tell from the website).

Yes, they should.

It's a poor show from Voipify that they don't publish their rates to 03 numbers on their call charges page, whilst they themselves have an 03 contact number!

This might be an error in their page and it should say "01, 02, 03 numbers" under landlines - but someone here said that actually they charge much higher for 03.

The lower per minute rates are to some extent offset by their 1p per call connection charge.

Also, it looks like they charge an extra £3.60 per month for every device registered. That would rule them out for me.

For Voipfone the monthly fee for a number is £3.60
300 minutes to 01/02 numbers would also be £3.60 (1.2ppm)
Total cost is therefore £7.20
But for me, many of those calls could quite easily be between me and another customer with Voipfone and so the call would be free, So in all probability the monthly bill could easily match that of Voipify or AA and maybe even lower.

So you can't really say one is better than the other on price alone. Other factors such as reliability and customer support (with Voipfone the call is free) are equally important factors. On both counts Voipfone comes out on top.

The Ofcom rules state:
Calls to 03 numbers cost no more than a national rate call to an 01 or 02 number and must count towards any inclusive minutes in the same way as 01 and 02 calls.

These rules apply to calls from any type of line including mobile, BT, other fixed line or payphone.
I would assume this would apply to VoIP providers as well.

That seems a pretty big omission with more and more people moving to VoIP... Wonder if Ofcom have any plans on expanding to cover VoIP providers under their rules.

Personally, I do not like the fact that Voipify 03 numbers are not treated exactly the same as their very low cost 01/02 numbers. - That said; Voipify 03 calls do cost arround the same as other voip providers charge for all landline numbers including 01 and 02 numbers.

Also, Voipify mobile and international call costs tend to be lower than other providers.

In reply to a post by candlerb:

It was confusing to me when I first considered joining them so I phoned them to ask how much it would cost me and as I understand it one location costs £3.00 plus VAT per month and each phone number, at that location, costs £1.00 plus VAT per month so one location with one phone number costs £4.00 plus VAT per month and each additional phone number at the same location costs another £1.00 plus VAT per month.

In our case: We have six dect phones, (devices), connected to an N300a and one Voipify line/number is connected to the N330a and this costs us a total of £4.00 plus VAT, per month and includes 200 minutes of 01/02 calls.

For each additional Voipify Phone Number it costs £1.00 per month plus VAT

At present Voipify does suit me as the performance is good and the cost is reasonable but if that changed and/or other providers were much better/cheaper I would change and a comparison between Voip providers is always helpful.

Well my current provider Voipfone has the same call rate for 03 numbers as 01 and 02.
However i noticed this statement from them:
Calls to Crown Dependencies (i.e. Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man) are charged at 3p per minute and are not included in Voipfone Plan or Landline Minutes packages.
Seems there are exceptions to this "National Rate" for 01/02 numbers!

Used to have a copper-based phone service from Cloudscape where their rate for an 03 call was certainly more than 01/02 calls.

Even on copper services calls to IoM, Jersey, Guernsey were often at a premium.
