Home phone on FTTP

[link to this post]

Help and advice please?

I moved to a FTTP connection a month ago (with ZZOOMM). My old copper phone cable doesn't now work for my land line.

I was recommended by ZZOOMM to use VOIP through one of their partners Keep In Touch who would port the existing land line number and I have proceeded with this. It should go live this week.

But how do I then use this new service. Can i just plug my old phone into the new router (Icotera i4882)? However, there doesn't seem to be a phone line in socket on the back? Or do I need a different cable (or new phone)?

Sorry if I'm being dumb!

You would need a VOIP provider such as Voipfone to which just might still be able to port your phone number if you wish to keep it..

You would also need some hardware such as the Gigaset N300 Dect base station or for a wired phone an ATA (analog telephone adapter) such as the Cisco PAP2T-NA PAP2T.

What have you actually purchased, and what discussion did you have with their sales team?

This is one of the offerings from Keep In Touch. Not too sure about the value, but a simple solution for some I'm sure.

I've gone with KIT Keep In Touch and I have my old landline number ported and just paid for the KIT virtual service.

But am I being thick? How can I connect a home phone to the router?

Can I just get a phone with WPS and link it direct to the router and the use this or do I have to pay for a separate hub (KIT do this as well but charge £11/month)? The router doesn't have a phone in connection hen e why I was wondering about WPS connection!

Again, what were you sold, or did you select the package yourself from the website? If you have just bought Kit Virtual then it sounds like you have only subscribed to a number redirection service.

If there's no phone socket on the router you'll probably need some sort of analog telephone adapter, something like this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Grandstream-HT801-SIP-ATA-H...

Alternatively you can install an app like Acrobits Softphone on your mobile (assuming you have a smartphone) and use that instead or as well as a phone plugged in to the analog telephone adapter.

Another option would be a wireless DECT base station like this

https://www.gigaset.com/pro/hq_en/gigaset-n510-ip-pro/

You certainly don't need to be shelling out another £11/month on anything

I am surprised, no wait gobsmacked that you have ploughed on with porting your number without knowing how it will be presented to you and what equipment you will need or what equipment will be supplied. Some people never stop surprising me.

Hi AxiD86,

If I understand the questions you've asked today (8th Oct), you 1, want to use your existing home phone and 2, have ordered the KIT Virtual service.

Looking at the KIT website it is not clear to me exactly which of the various options you have ordered, but, to achieve 1. above, you will need the KIT Hub. This will plug into your router and will provide a phone socket that you can plug your home phone into. If KIT have not provided the Hub, you will need to get back to them and ensure that you have ordered the correct option.

This is the same setup that I have, except that my provider is Vonage - it works very well!

I hope this helps.

Good luck
