ATA and BT8600 Continual Ringing Problem

[link to this post]

Hello

I am trying to setup VoIP to work for my elderly parents because they have moved over to FTTP using a Altnet provider. I have a fanvil GA10/11 ATA and I am using it with a BT8600 Analogue Telephone connected to the ATA. The BT8600 has a "Call Guardian" powered by truecall inbuilt that filters out unwanted calls and stops scam calls. This is a very important feature that I want to retain because they are elderly and vaunerable and I want to protect them from scam calls.

The problem I am having is that when the "Call Guardian" is enabled it works and the caller announces there name and it gets put through and the home phone rings but if the caller hangs up the home phone keeps on ringing and does not hang up or stop ringing then when we answer we get an engaged tone because the caller has hung up. It is not stopping the phone from rining if the caller hangs up. If I disable the "call guardian" then the phone works normally and if I call the home phone and then hang up or end the call the home phone stops ringing. The problem with the phone not stopping ringing only happens when the call guardian is enabled.

I have tried with a different brand of BT phone (BT4600) and the same problem still happens. when the "Call Guardian" is enabled. If I disable the call guadian then it works like a normal phone should do.

Using the telephone without the "Call Guardian" enabled is not an option because I want to protect my elderly parents.

Any help and advice on how to resolve this problem would be most appreciated because I am finding this a very frustraiting problem to resolve myself. I have spent many hours looking on google but I have not found and answer.

Thank you kindly in advance for your assistance.

Have a read through this recent thread, linked below, in respect of your issue. Seems to me you may have a similar setting within your ATA that you may need to adjust.

Thank you pheasent.

I have seen that forum post and have investigated the option of the loop current disconnect on the fanvil ATA but I cannot find a similar setting.

I think you're able to change the settings for "Onhook Time" and "Onhook Min Time" on that ATA. Might be worth having play around with those to see if that makes any difference, as it appears the issue relates to the ATA not closing out / tearing down the call once the inbound caller has hung up.

[ATAs can be a nightmare to tweak]

Thank you for your assistance.

The only onhook settings are found in phone settings > media settings as explained in the manual here https://www.provu.co.uk/products/fanvil/GA10/GA10-us...

I have set the "Onhook Max Time" to 100 ((100~1000)millisecond) and the "Onhook Min Time" to 100 (Onhook Min Time) and it still is not terminating the call when "call guardian" is enabled.

This is VERY frustraiting because everything else works as it should but if the call guardian is enabled and the person calling hangs up the call does not get terminated and the phone keeps ringing so when we answe all we get is an engaged tone because the caller has hung up.

In reply to a post by harryhamster:

Also what were the defaults of these settings?

Did you try increasing rather than decreasing the values from the defaults (one at a time)?

I agree. Try increasing. An 'on-hook' if you think about it, is a 'loop disconnect'. Albeit that a loop disconnect can occur anywhere in the circuit, whereas an on-hook, by definition occurs only at the phone. But make allowances for the design being done and the manuals being written by non-native speakers, who might not have the distinction in their own technical language.

Anyway, kit is designed to be immune to interference and your 8600s may well want to see a decent period of 'on-hook' or 'loop disconnect'.

Ok a bit of an update.

To answer what Firmware am I running:-
For the Fanvil GA10/11 it is Current Software Version: 2.4.23.4

The standard settings for the Fanvil GA11/10 for Onhook is Max: 800 and Min: 200.

I have tried increasin both a bit at a time and I have gone to Onhook Max 950 and Min 500 and it has made no difference at all and it still does not disconnect the call when "Call Guardian" is enabled. So I am totally stumped.

Hmmm. I'm not sure there much you can change on the BT base/handsets. The only other thing would be to try another brand/model of ATA

[I have said it may times in the past, I'm afraid that ATAs to my mind are the work of the devil]
