BT DV keeps dropping

[link to this post]

Mother-in-Law has recently been activated on BT DV. Not FTTP.

Using a Panasonic DECT phone, plugged directly into the Hub, some calls drop after 5 - 15 minutes.

On a few occasions when calling out there is a dial tone but when the call is answered neither person can hear anything.

Similar thing happens when calling, MiL answers using her DECT phone but can't hear the person on the other end and the caller still has the ringing tone.

BT have sent a new hub as there is no issue with the line, but the problem persists.

So much for VOIP is better!

Have seen some comments about still needing a micro-filter plugged into the hub. Surely that is not correct?

Anyone got any ideas?

I had this on a VoIP line for a while. After an EXACT time, somewhere around 15 minutes of connection, the call would drop, every time and the same time into the call.

Cannot remember how it was resolved but from a distant memory there was a registriation setting that needed tweaking.

Yes. You need to tease out of this situation whether the problem is the internet connection, the router or the DECT.

Re "MiL answers using her DECT phone but can't hear the person on the other end and the caller still has the ringing tone." - this is generally a feature of PSTN telephony where the recipient has not picked up the phone. Possibly MIL needs to press the DECT pick up button as well as pick up the phone?

DV is not the same as VoIP, although similar. The time to say "So much for VoIP" is when you have diagnosed the fault. If you say this before you start, you are blocking your mind against resolving the issues.

Re plugging a micro filter in to the hub, just think about it. Why would you do such a thing? As you say MIL does not have FTTP, I am guessing she has ADSL or FTTC. In which case, it might help to have a filter like you would have with voice and ADSL and FTTC. ie plugging the router into the ADSL/FTTC side of a filter and plugging the redundant internal phone line into the other side of a filter. But really, this is much better done by unplugging legacy phones and rewiring the analog phone line to go straight to the router and no where else.

" a registriation setting that needed tweaking."

Is this a setting on the DECT phone?

" press the DECT pick up button as well as pick up the phone?"

She does press the answer button.

Not sure what the difference is between DV and VOIP but it is telephony via the internet.

"rewiring the analog phone line to go straight to the router and no where else."

I did mention that the DECT base station IS plugged directly into the BT Hub.

It's too far back to remember details but almost certainly a base station or hub issue.

In your case you need to push the provider to resolve.
