Where To Buy A PABX?

[link to this post]

A bit off topic but does anyone know where to look for a standard PABX? I have looked on EBay and found a few which may be okay but they are all sellers in Hong Kong.

If you have X existing lines would a PABX setup just be simply connect the X outgoing lines to the PABX and connect up Y telephones and the PABX would automatically select an outgoing line etc?

TIA

Much will depend on how many lines and how many phones, and are the incoming lines analogue or digital?

a simple 2+8 PABX will put the calls out on one of the two lines using the one that is available or a pre-set preference according to the config.

Can you provide some links on where to buy a PABX in the UK and some suitable models?

I am trying to learn about PABX.

For example sakes say there are 4 standard analogue BT phone lines each going to a normal BT socket where you plug in a phone. I want 6 extensions that will share these 4 standard phone lines.

Is there a box you can buy which you plug 4 wires into it and then into each of the 4 standard phone sockets and then plug 6 phones into the same box and it just basically works with a little configuration of the box?

Thanks

more lines than most would have. A "4+8" PABX would handle up to 4 lines with up to 8 extensions.

Probably a bit late, but I use a 3 line, 8 extension PABX from www.orchid-electronics.com. It has some ATAs plugged into the exchange line sockets.

Mine is a few years old now, and they seem to have changed the styling of the case, but it looks like the same machine inside. I'm pretty sure it cost about 100, but their on-line store is hopelessly slow and I can't look now. If you phone them, you may get a code to reduce the cost by 25%.
