yeah its a good unit. 2 minor complaints i have with it though:

Its network interface is only 10hdx. I raised this with siemens as i thought mine was faulty but they said thats how it is.

If you hold down the call button a bit too long it will route the call over the fixed line with no warning, possibly incurring massive bills! But maybe i just havent configured mine properly. With my old spa3102 i had to prepend the number with a hash to tell it to use the fixed line, which is a better method.

Not come across that call issue before always append when I want to specify a designated line to dial out on have you got the latest firmware I see they have brought about 3 new versions out since I got mine as for the 10/100 thing I suppose if that's all it needed then putting any more in would have been pointless in Siemens eyes...

I've only got one handset i'd like to get a few more and play with the "switchboard" style features I could see this being really good for a smallish business with a few employees like a small estate agents or something like that.

I love mine laugh

My S685IP works for both incoming and outgoing VoIP calls through a 780WL. I did not disable the SIP ALG in the 780WL. STUN is disabled for the VoIP connection on the S685IP.

Actually, I take this back. Both incoming and outgoing calls between the S685IP and geographic numbers worked fine with my VoIP provider (Voipcheap), but calls on Gigaset.net did not have any audio in one direction. Disabling the SIP ALG on the 780WL, as described above, and forwarding TCP port 5060 and UDP for the RTP ports fixed this. I had STUN enabled with the port-forwarding approach.

SIP Application-level Gateway. They're meant to try and fix some of the problems caused by NAT. The only reason they cause problems for VoIP is that a lot of router manufacturers still have broken implementations.

SIP ALG shouldn't really be a problem these days since most VoIP providers are now using media proxies to handle the audio. I have the SIP ALG disabled in my router (even though it's running TomatoUSB so is probably not a broken implementation) and have no problem with any of the 4 providers i use because they all use media proxies. The Gigaset 685 also supports media proxies.
