Just been notified of yet another increase by my current ISP.
Some time ago someone offered to port my current number to a VOIP service which seemed the best idea at the time. Unfortunately I can't find this PM or email.
Does anyone still offer such a service please?

Try Sipgate.co.uk or Grawell.com
some numbers can't be transferred,
but Sipgate would give you free No. with your local code.

Thanks Martin.
Want to try and avoid a number change, if poss.
Found the emails (from iNet Telecoms Ltd and they seem to think porting *is* possible.
Edit: Have emailed your 1st suggestion. You sure on the spelling of the 2nd?

Be aware that if you port in the number that your ADSL line is on then you'll lose that service at the time the number is ported in!

Thanks for the warning, but VM BB is on a cable not on the phone line.

Do you do text messaging on your current number? Sipgate don't seem to be able to handle that. Gradwell can, but not if the number was originally Sipgate. Text wasn't something I thought about when I set my number up, but its a pain now, because if people text me (which would be fine on a BT line), the text message just vanishes.

That's not very good!
Isn't it a requirement set by Oftel or something?

I'd also recommend Draytel - http://www.draytel.org/
I've been with them a couple of years now and they've been very reliable.
There is no monthly standing charge and if you sign up with £20 you'll get on their cheaper Silver Tariff plus get a free geographic telephone number.
