Using old BT3940 in Voip?

[link to this post]

Hi all,
Can I use these handsets with a Voip service? Keep reading about the Grandstream HT801 and Giga N300A (cant see them for sale though, bunch of N300 on ebay) analog converters, not sure what the difference is or just ditch them and get a Gigaset trio.
Thanks

The easiest to setup will be a fresh Gigaset (with perhaps a trio of handsets) install using an N300(A) IP base to do the VOIP (and even keeping an analog landline in the mix should you wish).

Have a look on ligo.co.uk

N300-IP and N300A-IP, near identical except teh A has answer machines included. However, they are also sold as GO - 570GO, 700GO, 650GO &c

My preferred vendor for Gigaset is LIGO.

An excellent choice. The N300A can be configured with up to 6 VOIP services, plus a fixed line. It also has an answering machine, 3 actually, that can each be assigned to one or more of your configured services.

So I can still use the BT ones with the N300 and Gigaset if need be in the future? Might be the way to go

I wont profess to know the compatibility of your particular handsets, but in general non-Gigaset handsets can connect using the GAP (Generic Access Profile) - fine for very basic calling functions.

However you will lose much of the richer functionality the base is capable of unless you have up to date Gigaset handsets.

Explained better here:

https://ligo.co.uk/blog/can-use-gigaset-handset-diff...

It's the same for any brand really. The best compatibility and functionality is if both ends come from the same place.

Yes. It will show up on the Gigaset web interface. You can also assign a different ring to it. When dialling out, I have set the option that allows me to use fixed or voip.
