Contacting Voipfone

[link to this post]

Issue as at 15:56 on 16th July 2023:

Trying to logon with an account login but meet with:

"The request timed out while attempting to communicate with the server. This could be because our server is temporarily unavailable or your internet connection may be having problems".

Nothing wrong here. I also can't ping to voipfone.co.uk

Used their contact us page but it is a form to fill in (No email address given).

But of course you are unaware of this issue because:

"At this time we are unable to send your message. Please try again or contact us by phone or email."

Yet your status page says everything is up and running! What a bloody shambles when you urgently need to get to the control panel. Waiting for you to open up at 9am on Monday to resolve this issue is totally unacceptable.

Hi trolleybus,

All systems can have hassles and if it is every blue moon I would tend to take the view that a one off is a hassle but is no big deal and I would use the idiom view that; "Every dog is allowed one bite".

If it is a one off occurrence, then it may be OK but if it becomes a somewhat regular then I would be less tolerant and "Three strikes and your out comes to mind".

The other month, (one of my VOIP providers, ie. Voipify), went off overnight, but my other VOIP provider, (Sipgate), stayed connected. - As soon as one VOIP account went off I knew because the Gigaset phones displayed messages to let me know of an issue.

The internet seemed OK and there appeared to be nothing wrong with the internet or with the Voipify Website, (other than the fact that I could not login). - However, when I contacted Voipify instead of fessing up, they said that it could be my ISP, (ie. Zen), but while I was on the phone it reset.

Next night it did the same and Voipify blamed Zen saying that Sipgste VOIP connected slightly differently. - Zen said it was not them but a router reset, when I called Voipify back, seemed to correct it the issue and it has not recurred since.

Best of luck with it but I would say take one or maybe even two on the chin and possibly use the "Three strikes and your out" idiom if it happens more than twice, especially if they do not quickly fess up.

Maybe try a router reset.

https://www.voipfone.co.uk appears to work but I don't get a reply if I ping https://www.voipfone.co.uk.

Not unusual, also you can't ping a URL, hopefully you've dropped the https:// prefix. www.voipfone.co.uk resolves to 46.31.225.153 and this IP doesn't respond to ping (ICMP ECHO) packets. They don't have to.

The issue (which only affected the control panel, not voice services) was officially resolved around 17:30 yesterday. It had actually been working for several hours before that.

Nothing on the status page about root cause but looking back over their incidents, this is a rare occurrence.

The Voipfone registration server sip.voipfone.net also does not respond to pings unlike the Sipgate and A&A equivalents!
