Airband VOIP

[link to this post]

I am wondering whether anyone has any experience with Airband's VOIP service. We move to Airband from Sky as they installed FFTP in our village. I would like to use my existing telephones; however, I understand that a telephone adaptor is required. Airband will not offer any information regarding such adaptors, they only push the Ligo phone. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who has managed to get Airband VOIP working through a telephone adaptor, which model and what settings, as I can find no specific information on the net.

Many thanks.

It looks like they expect most users to use a softphone client but they do (or at may) sell a DECT handset

https://www.airband.co.uk/knowledge-base/how-do-i-se...

To connect this up to your phones you'll need an adapter (called an ATA), the Airband credentials for the service (if they'll give them to you) and some knowledge to wire the output of the ATA to your extension wiring.

If it were me, I'd ignore the Airband Talk service and use an independent 3rd paty one - likely to be cheaper, have better support (especially for your own hardware) and be cheaper. Be honest about your phone usage - do you really need an inclusive calls package for instance?

For phones, many, including me, don't use wired extensions or an ATA but use a DECT cordless phone system (such as the Yealink in the link). The Gigaset range are very popular - I have the N300A base station (which includes an answering machine) and some associated handsets.

I use A&A for VOIP (£1.20 per number per month plus calls) - Other providers are available!

If the OP wants to connect a VOIP service to existing phone wiring he could use a new Cisco ATA191 or an old SPA112 from ebay. There is also the Grandstream HT801 ATA Adapter. I have been using a Cisco SPA112 for the past 8 years. It connects to Voipfone to whom I ported my the BT landline number.

Do not buy old SPA devices. They have massive vulnerabilities in them and Cisco have said they won't be fixed as they are end of life products.

If you have one already and are running it behind a firewall in an isolated network with no inbound connectivity then that might be enough to keep you safe, but I certainly wouldn't go out and buy one now.

Airband VOIP is very hit and miss, mainly miss, they are just a reseller, and remember the service is not always great, even on fibre
