VOIP connection query

[link to this post]

Trying to add a BT Premium cordless to a working VOIP setup based on a Gigaset A580IP

The Premium is connected by wireless only to the 580, not corded, as with the existing phones (BT Diverse) and is registered on the 580. All my existing VOIP lines are ringing inbound OK on the Premium but I cannot dial out on it as it says it "needs the corded connection". How do I switch it to wireless? Existing cordless phones are dialling out OK.

On my Gigset N300IP I go to 'Settings', 'Telephony', 'Number Assignment' where I can choose which service to use for outgoing calls for each handset. I would think you could make a similar choice for your Premium on the 580.

Thanks, Michael. I had tried that with no luck so I suspect more skullduggery is needed smile I have 'default' set to voip and the outbound Premium likewise.Every combination of selections fails to cure!

Third party handsets, like the BT ones, will only have basic GAP-compliant functionality rather than the full complement of features that Gigaset handsets use, when paired / attached to a Gigaset base using DECT.

I don’t think outbound line selection from the BT handsets will be supported under GAP - if anywhere it will be within the setting(s) on the BT handset, rather than the Gigaset base.

Check with Gigaset, but I think you may have hit a compatibility limit here.

Thanks to both, but I am abandoning this 'campaign' and will probably finish up with a Gigaset replacement phone. Out of interest the outbound line selection DID turn out to be selectable on the BT Premium

Could you call out on the selected line?

That’s good. At least you can make and receive calls.

The overall experience and full features and functionality will be much better with Gigasets handsets though.
