Video on websites

I want to put some video on my website but not sure about he best way.

This guy has done the you tube thing and also vimeo (whatever that is)

Is it best to host your own video with quicktime or something obviously looks better?

Hosting on your own server is bandwidth consuming. I use an online hosting sollution known as Infinovision But this is only available as part of a Joomla component. There are however other companies that offer free hosting of videos like youtube and Vimeo as you say but these might not give the syle and elegance that fits your site. But for free you can't complain!

True, and you can now imbed a youtube video on your website, so it looks half decent, however, you could also just knock it down and turn it into a flash movie yourself and host it, I don't think the bandwith will be as big an issue as you assume, because I host lots of webistes with video content and we don't hit that problem at all, but then we do have our own server, although there is a Fair Use Policy, but it hasn't worried them yet!

There's no real benefit to hosting your own videos on your own website. In fact, it's better to stick them on youtube and embed them on your website for many reasons.

Since when has uploading content to YouTube affected who owns the copyright?

Unless you are using the videos for COMMERCIAL USE and you wish to restrict who sees what video. YouTube is no good to some of our clients at all !

Yes - My bad. I was thinking more along the lines of giving away your 'rights of use'.
