Listing files in a directory

[link to this post]

On previous hosts I have used, I have been able to browse to a specific folder within the website (eg the /images/ directory), and it would display as "Index of /images/" and list all files/folders within and their file sizes.

However, using Streamline for a particular site, it instead shows "You are not authorized to view this page" and "HTTP Error 403 - Forbidden".

Any ideas? I've tried using both Streamline's Windows & Linux hosting service.

Streamline have a Control Panel for account settings, and also a Domain Control Panel where I can set password security (if I had purchased that option), set the FTP password, email settings etc.

I can't see anything called, or similar to index manager.

I've had a reponse from Streamline, and they say "Unfortunatelty it is not possible to display directory listings on our hosting servers, and all files and folders need to linked to a webpage in order to display".

So, is there an easy way of creating a list of files which are linkable (so they can be individually opened/saved)?

I'm using Frontpage at the moment (not Frontpage extentions though).

Thanks for any help...

Thanks Algorythm. That is great, and looks much better than the default index lists.

One quick query...I see it has a very useful auto thumbnail generator, but GDlib 2.0+ is required. I notice you have it working, so was wondering where you found GDlib? I've searched around and can't find it.

It would be very useful to have this operational too.

Cheers.

that would have to be something your host installs.

create a file with the following contents:

<?php

phpinfo();

?>

and save it as info.php on your server, then navigate to it. search that file for 'GD support'.

it's a very basic requirement for any php hosting platform.

also delete that file when you're done with it.

OK, it would suggst GD support is enabled:-

gd

GD Support enabled
GD Version bundled (2.0.28 compatible)
FreeType Support enabled
FreeType Linkage with freetype
GIF Read Support enabled
GIF Create Support enabled
JPG Support enabled
PNG Support enabled
WBMP Support enabled
XBM Support enabled

So is it a problem with the hosting service?

hmm it should work. it might be something to do with the permissions of the images.

Its bugging me now! LOL. Have given full permissions to the directory, and the files to all parties, but no luck.

There isn't anything appearing in the ".snifthumbs" directory that the index.php creates. Is this normal?

P.S. I was using version 1.5.2, but have now tried 1.5.1 (as that is what you are using) - no difference.
