Trace how people got to the Website

[link to this post]

I have set up a website for a friend who runs a small business. He has entries in Yell.com and other online indexes / directories / etc.

He has now asked me if there is any way to find out which of these advertisements renders the most hits to the Website. I have set up Webalizer, but that doesn't answer the question.

Is there any software that will do what he wants?

The website is : www.selectpestcontrol.co.uk
You can see the Webalizer stats on: www.selectpestcontrol.co.uk/stats

Webalizer does show you where your traffic is being refered from if you look through the log to Top 30 of 61 Total Referrers those are your referrers.

Google analytics will also show you the same.

You are depending on the users browsers not clearing the refferer header. Many browsers do clear this header so people can not see where they came from to arrive at your site.

You might like to look at www.statcounter.com. The basic package is free, and it does seem to provide very detailed stats.

Best wishes

Yes it would, but I think the op wanted something that shows you graphics and what not other than a log file. I know the companies I've done websites for generally want something that looks nice, not rows and rows of text...
