Problems with homecall free webspace

[link to this post]

Hi all,
Wonder if you can help please.
I have had a free website for several years but recently lost my web hosting. I decided to make use of my free Homecall webspace & thought it would be a matter of just uploading the pages previously used, from my computer to the homecall space.
The upload worked fine using the FTP included in my software (Namo), but when I type in my URL, all I see is a page with Index of/ followed by a list of the files I have uploaded. I can view each of these files if I click on them individually, but I want it to look like a proper website. Any suggestions as to how I overcome this.
ALSO, I have images included within the pages (as previously) but these only show up in the list of files, and not in the page itself (you just get the box with the small red cross in the lefthand corner). I haven't changed the hyperlinks so assumed they would work as before.
As you may realise, my skills here are a bit limited so any explanations in leymans terms would be very much appreciated.
Thank you

you're missing the index file - webservers typically look for index.php, (index.asp where appropriate) then index.html in that order.
some webservers also look for index.htm and home.html/htm but not all, so if your main index page is either index.htm or home.whatever, it will need changing to index.html

make sure you update your links accordingly

Thanks for replying. I already have an index.html file uploaded but it just shows in the list, which looks like this

Index of /
Index.html

picture2.jpg

Do I need to add the index.html or .php somewhere else?

Is the I of Index.html uppercase by any chance? If so, try index - i.e. lowercase i
