Simple & free graphical web site design software sought

[link to this post]

Our local club is creating a completely new web site and the person doing it has lots of ideas for it but, though PC literate, has no web site creation/implementation experience so is seeking some free and very easy to use software.

Currently I do the site but don't have the time to continue to do so, I basically hand code the HTML, CSS, and PHP but have no experience or knowledge of available software aids.

The site is to be informative, not interactive, probably no more than a few dozen pages. The current site has a facility to send an email to the club which currently uses a form and PHP to validate and send the email. That capability would continue to be required.

He has put together 2 or 3 pages using Word, currently purely for appearance purposes. Is it practical (efficiency of HTML is irrelevant)) to use Word for it all? Have is navigation handled? etc.

Your thoughts would be appreciated please.

Tony

Does your site host offer any packages, e.g. under cPanel?

You could use something like Drupal? I have found it useful for blogs, but also for building websites. It's very flexible.

If you want a simple information based site then something like using wordpress is probably the easiest answer. Drupal would do it but is quite hefty and sometimes a pain to set up.

The current issue of PC Pro has a free copy of Net Objects Fusion 10 on the DVD. I am sure the OP would welcome comments of the suitability of this program.

If the comments are favorable I might even give it a try myself!

I found a review of Net Objects Fusion 10 on the PCPro website from 2007 when it was still new.

Which might help OP and others. I was tempted to buy a copy of PCPro to get it when I saw it was available for the price of the magazine - and might still, though the review was less than terrific. But might suit.
