Gallery Software recommendations

[link to this post]

hey there, my friends looking for some free or very cheap gallery software.. I am at a loss as to suggestions..

he's tried a few cPanel ones: Coppermine, 4Images.. but he seems to be having some issues..

So he's asked me to ask here and see what suggestions are made..

Here's what he's after:

front end (what the user sees)
a webpage with galleries
various pages for users to navigate around

back-end (the admin side of it)
an easy to use and configure interface
an easy and straight forward upload facility to upload photos and assign into galleries.
an auto-thumbnail option to automatically create thumbnails of newly uploaded photos.

Thanks in Advance for any ideas..

CJT.

Has he tried gallery?

I've got a site set up using Gallery2 on Debian.

What problems is he having with Coppermine? My coppermine setup is working fine and does a good job...

I asked him and he said:

coppermine is too awkward and not as easy to set up as i'd like.. I am technically minded but I dont have the time to mess around that much.

having no end of trouble installing Gallery due to memory allocation errors and almost at the point of giving up on that one.

Sorry.. any other suggestions?

Sadly those are the two I know - gave up on Gallery myself, coppermine I found to be good, but as you say takes a bit to setup...
