Email from 1&1 support re support PIN

I've just received an email titled Increased security for your data: Information on the new 1&1 Support PIN purporting to come from 1&1 Support. All the header addresses look ok. All the embedded URLs look ok.

But...

To my knowledge I've never had any dealings with 1&1.

Is this a scam?

Why on earth would they contact me?

Or is it someone masquerading as them?

I received the same email, but I am a customer of theirs, regardless of that this seems legit. Not sure why you received one though if you're not a customer of theirs...

The only hosting company I'm registered with (as far as I know) is streamline.net. I'm not aware of any tie-up between the two.

I wonder how they got my email address...

Oh well, I'll delete the email.

All I can say is that I am a customer of 1&1, but I haven't received that email!
