|
|

Yes, it is free migration (unless on LLU, I don't think that will be the case with your line)

ok i shall think about but mostly will change 2 vivaciti at sometime shortly cheers 4 ur help

No problem, thats what we are here for

|
|
|
how long would it take to migrate and be back online again?
|
|
|
Migrations take about 7 days (depending on BT), but you should not be off-line, as your old connection should stay with you until you migrate over, and quite often there is an overlap period where both connection will work.

good speeds? no downtime? how longs the contract? any charges for leaving ?
|
|
|
|
what about the speeds are the good? if i dont like it can i leave? no downtime,be told of any expected downage or that? cheers
|
|
|
Speeds are good, and yes if your not happy you can leave, it is a monthly contract with 30 days notice, you can always apply for a MAC on the day after you connection goes live, and we can give you a mac to hold on to, to give you peace of mind, if you happy just don't use the MAC.
We are confident you will be happy with the service.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but are the GB's quoted in product list download and upload, or just download?
|
|

Hi,
for the Enta lines they are upload and download, for the fup packages, they are only download.

All Entanet resellers (of which vivaciti are just one) are subject to having their customers throttled. This throttling has been kicking in more and more lately as many heavy downloaders have recently jumped over to Entanet.
Overall though Entanet are a goodish deal - even with their across the board throttling.

ok so vivaciti cap the speeds then if ur a heavy user? what about the gigs per month? just want to find a isp that dont throttle and unlimited or high gb caps.

Hi Tony_Keith
do you know when are Entanet applying the throttling?
i.e. peak or off-peak? or both?
I was considering one of their resellers because F2S have been 'pipexed' so that the unmetered overnight time (a massive 1am - 6am) now runs at <512 on a MAX line . . which is UTTERLY useless when you are syncing / backing up large project files at night - no warning or announcement . . muppets!
thanks in advance for any guidance

I would have a read through the Enta forum, Tony_keith, is not known for an unbiased opinion on anything other that AOL.

Nice to see vivaciti is still economical with the truth.
I have not suggested anyone joins AOL in this topic have I?
I would even suggest the OP doesn't join AOL if he/she is a heavy downloader.
I have actually suggested that an Entanet reseller might be a 'goodish' option - due their 330GB allowance.
However the one entanet reseller I wouldn't suggest anyone joins is vivaciti due the childish bullying tactics so often displayed on this forum which may possibly extend to vivaciti's customer service skills - not to mention the fact that vivaciti will not reveal any information about their company status or even if there is any connection between vivaciti and a certain bankrupt company.
Therefore my own personal opinion is - avoid vivaciti like the plague.

Throttling by Entanet can be applied any time of the day or night.
Take a look in the Entanet forum of this site and you will see quite a few topics concerning Entanet's throttling.

vivaciti are actually just a reseller - the 'real' ISP you would be connected to is Entanet.
The throttling Entanet applies is to all users whether you are a heavy user or just browse a few webpages. So effectively they punish the innocent as well as the guilty.
Having said that - Entanet's allowances are very generous as you can use 330gb a month. I personally would avoid using vivacity though and use one of the more open and honest Entanet resellers in relation to who they actually are - such a ukfsn.

done that . . . looks not too bad to be honest!
yes, few complaints about throttling Sat evening etc. . . . sounds wonderful . . . when you have an ISP throttling EVERY MINUTE GUARANTEED from 1am - 6am which they are selling as "off peak" & every other minute is covered by a cap - then these guys seem fair & reasonable and worth a try

Entanet referrers are perfect for high usage as the throttling, almost uniquely in the industry, hits light users as hard as heavy users. So heavy users get a better crack at the whip than most other providers.
As there are a number of entanet referrers offering identical products, I would insist on best practice.
That means, amongst other things, making sure that the referrer is a member of an Ofcom approved Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme and provides a clear name, company number and address on their website.
|
|
|
a reasonable view, HOWEVER in my bitter experience being a member of an Ofcom approved Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme is useless as it takes months before they will intervene & then they have no teeth really - it's all voluntary rubbish . . .
As I have said on here many times before self regulation in the UK is a complete waste of time - look at how the Law Society protects bad / dishonest solicitors rather than the public!
. . . . and as for that bunch of Ofcom muppets, well they have the speed and teeth of a garden snail
not that I'm dissolutioned like, but months of battling UKO I learned the hard way! 8-(

Indeed, being a member of an approved ADR is not a guarantee of good service and plenty of sharks swim in the isp waters.
However, if there is a choice of providers offering identical products, it would be wise to look into who is following best practice.
For example, if a particular provider had links to bankrupt companies with six figure outstanding CCJs, was very unclear what their address was or their trading status and was not a member of an approved ADR, it may be wise to look into who else was offering the same product for the same price in the marketplace IMHO.

Entanet referrers are perfect for high usage as the throttling, almost uniquely in the industry, hits light users as hard as heavy users. So heavy users get a better crack at the whip than most other providers.
Another category of user that benefit from Entanet's, at present, unique throttling method, are those who have an unusually high dependence on time-critical low latency, but low bandwidth, applications (VOIP and gaming, to name but two).
Entanet's variable speed limits are in place to keep the total loading on each of their centrals in check, such that no central should suffer packet loss or increased latency (except under extreme high demands - due to the 2Mbps minimum speed limit). As such, latency (pings) remain consistent 24/7 and packet loss is almost unheard of (both extremely useful for on-line gamers, or those using VOIP and other time-critical applications).
Of course, there are other ISPs that don't throttle at all, and have enough central capacity to ensure pings stay below 20-30ms and don't suffer packet loss, but none for the

I disagree as low users can get time critical applications unthrottled at full speed and low latency from any number of providers at reasonable cost.
Entanet referrers are almost unique in throttling light users down to 2meg speeds at evenings and weekends regardless of their usage.
IMHO that means great value for uber users, albeit at lower speeds, and poor value for average and light users.

Speeds at present (even with a 2Mbps limit in place - been that way for about 75 minutes, and likely to continue for about another hour) are around 4-5x faster than I used to get with Eclipse, and many times faster than with Plusnet and Metronet.
Can't comment about BT, it's been a long time since I had a BT retail DSL product (jumped ship when this BT-Yahoo nonsense started), and not wanting to risk a 12 or 18 month minimum contract, there's no way I'm going back.
With BT's new "unlimited" (yeah, right) ADSLmax offering, I might have been tempted to give them a go for a few months (just to see if the accompanying FUP had any effect on medium users - typically, I use around 6-10GB peak and around 40-60GB off-peak), but no way am I taking a risk with their current insistence on a 12/18 month contract.
So, even though I'm not an uber-user, I'm staying put, because I simply haven't found a faster product at anything like the money Entanet charge (closest I came was ACE/Mistral at around

How is it poor value for light users?
Under Enta's system they have a better chance of a low latency connection with reasonable bandwidth at any time and usually have full line speed bandwidth available to them.
Moreover they can be sure of what they are buying unlike with providers who have vague or poorly defined FUPs. Many other providers sell a light use package with rediculously low FUP limits. With Enta the customer knows what they are getting.

this is my speed test done at 10 past 7 this morning..
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 4992 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3214 kbps

That profile looks like your router has had a lower sync at some time, and this has dropped your profile, if your router holds sync at a stable rate for 3 days, your profile should start to rise.
|
|
|
|
i dont have a router its just a modem i use
|
|
|
It could be that your modem is dropping off quite often that could be keeping your profile low,
