ISP Choice

[link to this post]

As I'm new to and in a need of a home broadband connection, IDnet & UKfsn looked really strong to me:
- up to 8MB/s,
- no port blocking,
- no traffic shaping (idnet),
- 20-30GB cap,
- up to

IDNet [as you mentioned] or Zen's active 8000 package http://www.zen.co.uk/Broadband/S_Business.aspx?page=518
will fit your requirements perfectly.

Check out Newnet http://www.newnet.co.uk/broadband/home.php
as well, 3 quid cheaper with 25GB usage included but uploads are counted in the total unlike IDNet's 30GB and Zen's 20GB where only downloaded data counts [unlimited upload on both].

As for UKFSN [they count uploads in their usage btw], they're nice and fast especially if you use your connection between the hours of 8am to 10pm monday to friday and can live with a [30GB uploads included cap. [on the 20 quid max home package]

After 10pm [and all weekend] things slow down [usually] because of the much larger off-peak allowances kicking in, and everyone starts firing off torrents ect and the pipes get full. But to stop them getting saturated and affecting ping times and causing packet loss a tool slows your connection to 2Mb, but ONLY if the pipes get full. If you only can sync at 2Mb speeds or slower then it won't make much difference.

Try IDNet. 1 month contract. No upload limits and a generous 30Gb allowance for downloads. If you go above the 30GB then each1Gb costs an extra

Re: ISP Choice - Help!

[re: Anonymous] [link to this post]

Seems like I've been misunderstood, - provided links are well appreciated yet what I am really looking for - a well-reviewed ISP (eg. idnet makes quite good impression), that could provide me with a dynamic IP (availability of static IP would be bonus), and if not too much to ask, good service as it was metioned in previous post.
Any suggestions?

Newnet's 25GB (upstream & downstream usage included in that allocation) Home S package may suit. They provide a a static IP by default, but say (dynamic addressing is available as an option).

You would need to check whether the dynamic IP option is chargeable or not.

Why a dynamic IP? It doesn't make much difference to the internet if you are static or dynamic and most dynamic ips especially with the more prevalent use of routers are becoming irrelevent.

f2s give you a static IP as standard if that is what you really want. My IP although supposedly static has been the same for nearly 5 months.

Dynamic IP because of security reasons. I know, I know... the issue is debatable but after all 'pros' and ''cons' were weighted in, dynamic IP's a preferential choice.
I've finally found that Namesco supplies dynamic IP with homebroadband connection as a default, static IP on request, no trafic shaping except for 50:1 contention... only question, are they a good choice?

Thanks for the lead, I checked with Newnet, they don't really do dynamic IP just sets (8) of static IPs, for NAT perhaps. Namesco though provides dynamic IP, it might as well be as the only attractive option:-/

Thanks for advice. I would've certainly used it if not an issue of dynamic IP address that I'm looking for. Namesco do it, are they good?
