uk online vs virgin media adsl

[link to this post]

I am thinking of signing up for a 1mbs, unlimited download service with either uk online or virgin media.(adsl)

I know neither of them have great reputations (and know that their ratings are not the best), but know someone who has recently signed up for the virgin service @

Have a look at the relevant thinkbroadband forums:

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=ukonline

http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=virginnet (this is the non-cable service)

I'm on UKO 1meg LLU and love it, it's been an absolutely faultless, truly unlimited service. I haven't heard any reports of slow connection for a while, so hopefully that's no longer a problem.

Apologies if the same gubbins get posted twice - I thought I'd posted a reply, but there seems to have been no post appearing.

So thanks for you post, the mob.

I 've had a look at the links and have decided I am leaning towards virgin at the moment. For me, I think the Virgin current slow speed problems are probably preferable to very long lead times with ukonline. I think I'd end up screaming at the ukonline customer service staff if my activation date kept being delayed. It would be so frustrating to be without broadband for an extended period.

I think you are asking for real trouble signing up with Virgin - by anyone's standards they are poor at the moment with little sight of it getting better, in fact just the opposite - I see no reason why you would want to sign with Virgin when there are comparable ISP's out there with a much better service.

Use Compare to make you own informed choice.

Good luck - Blue

Thanks for your reply.

The trouble is, I really want to keep costs down, but want higher than a 5gb a month limit ( at least 10gb from using p2p) which limits my choice. Better companies charge

I believe the vast majority of ISP's now count upload in their usage as well - there are a few that don't I believe but they are few and far between.

Good luck whatever you do.

Note: I meant to say earlier that unlimited download service I strongly suspect will be subject to their FUP [Fair Use Policy] so if you want a high download quota, again check carefully
