DIal Up Access

[link to this post]

Hi,

Am wondering if anyone can make suggestions for a non registration dial up ISP. It's for my laptop and I would like to be able to connect to the net from my lappy, but will need to use the inbuilt modem in my mobile phone. No 3 g where I stay unfortunatley.

Any suggestions welcome, also, does it matter that I would be connecting from a mobile phone modem rather than a landline?

Yes - all of the non-registration dial-up ISPs that I found when I was looking required you to use a BT landline.

Even if there is no 3g, you will prob still be able to use GPRS from your mobile, it will still be faster than mobile dial up. It will already be on your phone if you are on a PAYG but if it is a contract phone you may need to ask them to turn it on, just get your laptop to connect to your phone and then dial up the number *99# this will create a GPRS connection.

If you are using a PAYG mobile and connecting via GPRS, then the best to go for are Orange or T-Mobile who charge

It's still possible to use the old (and very slow) dial-up GSM access from a mobile to a 0845 dial-up but would probably be viable only through O2, who I believe still allow 0845 and 0870 numbers to count in your monthly minutes allowance.

Even then I don't think any dial-up ISP would take a connection from a mobile without registration, which is what the OP wanted.

I suggest you check out what vivaciti says first, but if that's no good have a look here. Though what your mobile costs to an 0845 number I don't know - assuming this idea works.
