Neighbour an OAP would like to TRY the internet and to see if it would be worthwhile as an informative hobby.
I could provide him with a router/ speedtouch modem. He has a BT line.
What would be the best way to go.
Obviously esential not to have to make a long term comittment to any ISP.
Would not be used for gaming.
Does not have to be 'The Best' initially.
Once he has used the net and wishes to get 'onboard', then we can look at pricing structures for his needs.
Any suggestions appreciated.

Really? Look at the incorrect info on this page. Be on 1-month contracts?
How about the provider list on the left. Looks like a recipe for disaster. Five OK, 11 rotten.

The trouble with just trying the internet is the ADSL activation fee so to pay

That's a set of good deals, but I don't think any of them are on the Entanet tariffs/service. Any idea who else Freeola resell?
And after the first month they are no longer cheap.

I think they are Entanet deals but L2TP so Freeola do the billing etc themselves, so the packages on offer are a bit different to a vanilla reseller like UKFSN or ADSL24. The peak/off peak times are a bit of a giveaway but I stand to be corrected.
And yes, after a month they're not cheap but the 1 month contract makes it easy to move, and the 1st month deals make it cheap to get started.

Looks fair enough. But the prices seem higher than normal Entanet.
Does it come within the ALT tool?

I'm fairly sure that the L2TP partners still have to put up with the ALT. Prices are a bit higher than normal Entanet but things like overusage charges can be a bit less if you just go over; normal Entanet is

And they are definitely Entanet resellers. Check out the support site for instructions on setting up a connection using a modem.

Have also been looking at the various options myself.
bit of 'you pays your money and takes a chance'.
Will have to bite the bullet and pay the connection charge, to avoid a 12 monts contract it appears.
Will carry on looking.
Thanks for all your helpful replies, food for thought!.

....... Be on 1-month contracts
I don't think they actually state that in print.
Monthly contract options are mentioned for some providers,

If you click the No contract broadband at the bottom of the page you link to you get to this page, and the table and the paragraph above it are what I was referring to.
However they word it, Be Unlimited and Pro are a rolling 3-month contract with a buy-out option. Be Value is monthly contract after the first 12 months.
And the providers list on the left? Hmmm!
Duff info!

I gave 3 months notice on my Be line in August and they were still squatting the line in January when I received a 'sorry you are leaving' mail. So my view is leaving Be is neither quick or easy.

Plusnet have upped their game over the last year or so, won't go bust and have low start up costs and easy to change products should your chum start getting the hang of it. Worth a look.

Connect your neighbour up to your BB for a month to let him see what it is like. Best deal there is!

The neighbour is not near enough to connect to your Internet connection via wireless then, or put a wire over the fence.
With whom does he have the telephone service?
Is cable available?
