Heavy User

Ok... I'm not going to lie. I am a file hoarder, I guess you could say a connoissuer of sorts?... Probably not...

But anyway, I have been trawling the web for hours trying to find the best deal for my new house. I am seriously considering someone like 'Be' but do they employ traffic shaping / bandwidth throttling techniques? Im after the ISP choice for heavy p2p users and gamers. The PlusNet pro package sounds great, but [censored] caps me!

AOL have also tickled my fancy with their whole 'Free Laptop' or 'Free PS3' but again will I get throttled as well as getting stung by a 24 month contract?

It all boils down to this -

1. I want the fastest but more critically most reliable service possible.
2. NO download / upload limits including peak and off peak services.
3. NO traffic shaping or p2p throttling.

I do appreciate we live in a technologically backward country (considering Japans latest efforts), but what do you guys think sounds best?

Cheers

I was using sky's base service (2meg: 2gig) for 6 months and downloading 80gig minimum every month. No shaping, p2p throttling, no on or off peak and never heard a thing from them. I felt so guilty that I decided to go to mid (8meg: 40gig). FUP policy on max (16meg) is reputed to be 250gig. You can reduce your ping time at the cost of download speed I understand. Perhaps one of the other posters would like to carry on with regard to this.

Take a wander around both those forums and see which of the 2 ISPs will give you the least grief
AOL are rumoured to cap/throttle, but BE dont seem to (people download hundereds of gigs worth every month and nothing seems to be said)
BUT...........Be are having DNS problems.
This wont affect your downloading, though..just a pain getting to the sites where the
downloads are

Why do you think it is a 24-month contract? Read the AOL and ISP Unhappiness forums.
