B/Band For a Pensioner

[link to this post]

My Father-in-Law is still on dialup, and because of his age is reluctant/sceptical of change, but i THINK i have convinced him to go broadband at last
The wife and i are going up to see him this coming weekend, and i would like to go there armed with a few recommendations.
He "greens" all the boxes on samknows, for providers, so can get any (lucky old sod lol!!!)
As he is a pensioner cost would be the main factor......and reliabiltity, of course. He wouldnt mind a 12 month contract, and speed isnt an issue either
One or two things he WONT do is either get Sky TV or unbundle his phone to the likes of Talk-Talk, etc (blerghh!! )
Who is the ABSOLUTE cheapest per month? I am with Bethere myself, but knowing the cantankerous old b*gger he would baulk at even 14 a month.
Anyone think of any cheaper?

Perhaps one of the NewNet packages?

Mind you, once you have factored in the cost of a router, Be might well be the best bet.

For very low usage this is about the cheapest I am aware of.

Looks like free* activation and router but with the caveats that you stay for a year or you pay for them if you leave early.

With the free* stuff worth circa 60 I guess, the package possible cheaper than dial up for the first year but of course with an always on, no tied up phone line usage could increase substantially compared to dial up and therefore the cost.

Just a tad sad..a wee bit old...

post office line rental + standard broadband would be cheaper than BT line rental plus Be - and no unbundling.
