Looking to switch

[link to this post]

Hi, it's my first post here so a big hello to everyone. I'll get right to the point, I've had my fill of Virgin now, tonight they throttled my bandwidth to the point where I couldn't even play World of Warcraft and page-loading times are similar to the old days of dial-up. I'm looking to switch to a different provider which won't throttle me (or at least not as ridiculously) and I'm happy to pay for the privilege. I'm also a pretty heavy user so something unlimited or with an fup would be great.

I've had a look around the forums and O2 and Entanet resellers seem to be the best options. I was wondering if anyone could tell me what O2's throttling policies are like, because I can't find the information anywhere. Also, is there a list of Entanet resellers anywhere for me to check out? Finally, is there another option I should be considering that I've missed? I just want to be able to watch Youtube vids and play a couple of games, surely not too much to ask? :P

Thanks for your time and help

I was with O2 (Be) for a while at my old address simply because I could get higher transfer speeds. I didn't experience any throttling at all. Previously and right now at my new address I am with ADSL24 (entanet reseller) where there is no throttling or traffic shaping. I can highly recommend them.

If Be/O2 have unbundled your exchange I would go with them.

As another escapee from Virgin Media ADSL I can recommend NewNet if (like me) you are a light user.

IDNET might be worth looking at. No throttling or any other restrictions and everything is UK based.

ADSL24, (and all Entanet resellers), do restrict speeds at busy times, though not by individual strangulation!

It's called the ALT system.

Which for the OP will actually work in his favour if he goes for ADSL24 and not O2/Be. As it does for most Entanet customers who are subject to it in return for the high allowances.

agree 100% with Alfs comments, Idnet are the best, but for gaming, ensure you choose the home super max package, I did, and it's superb for online gaming, as your data is given priority at the BT exchange, so great pings, no lag, bo port blocking or throtling, highly recommended.

There is not any traffic shapping or port throttling on entanets network , but thay do traffic mannage there centrals so there is not any packet loss at peak usage times..
This is called Anti loss Tool or ALT,

The ALT was adequately covered in an informative manner on the 13th.

Yes Tony!

It is a link to my post in this thread on the 13th in response to the one from rcranswick which wingco1 just replied to 3 days later.

My post was specifically drawing attention to the ALT and in turn contains a link to your post of the actual text from ADSL24 explaining it.

So wingco1's post and woweebert's response to it a further day afterwards can only be described as unfortunate, as they could easily start the whole pointless ALT argument for the 296th time. (That's measuring from Absolute Zero. Or is it measuring from Centigrade zero possibly?).

Yes, dam the customers. And that isn't a typo or misspelling .
