o2 or Be?

[link to this post]

Hello all, i'm new to this forum... I Would like some advice please.

I'm about to move into a flat thats bang nextdoor to the exchange, like 50 metres if that from my flat. I'm a heavy user dling torrents and use newsgroups alot. i would say probably dl around 50-70 gig a month.

I'm with pipex atm and really don't like the way they throttle my bw. I want to play games online, and download anytime i want without getting restricted by my isp. Which pipex do.

I'm thinking Be or O2 i know they are the same firm but i've heard good things about them. I have a o2 mob phone so i thought i would get the discounted package but then Be is only another 3 nuggets a month more and slighty better dl speed but upload is a little less than o2.

So what do people think? Be, o2 o someone else. I want fast speeds, well over 8 meg i'm happy with, and unlimited dls...

Your opinions greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance Phil.

Either Be or O2 would be a good choice, they use the same kit (O2 bought Be).

If you have an O2 phone then O2 may be a better bet.

50-70 GB a month is not thought to be a problem with either ISPs packages.

I suggest you get a feel by looking through their dedicated forums on this site (scroll down a few forums).

You don't say how much you want to spend, as your "Be is only another 3 nuggets a month more and slighty better dl speed but upload is a little less than o2" doesn't look correct to me.

As long as your phone line doesn't go via Shepherds Bush or three loops round the electricity sub-station to get 50 yards, then you should get maximum download speed. Have you asked anyone nearby what they get, even if it's only ADSL?

The highest upload speed on Be is 2.5Mbps, O2 1.6Mbps. The high Be figure causes a slight loss of download from the 24Mbps, but it should still be higher than the O2 max of 20Mbps. (Both less around 18% in real life).

I presume you have checked O2/Be have actually enabled the exchange? Samknows.

Hello RobertoS,

I really don't want to spend more than 20 a month. Maybe a little more. The most expensive o2 package is 20 but with my mobile discount thats 15. The Be package that fits in my budget is 18 hence the 3 difference

I haven't asked my neighbours. my good idea thank you.

The exchanged was enabled by Be in '06 so i assume that o2 is good there as well.

Thanks for your help.

Phil.

Don't forget Be doesn't include email or web space. Another 2 per month. You can get your own domain with email and webspace for under 90p per month. See Purple Cloud in my sig.

There are ways to avoid the connection fee with Be as well, or even get cash back. Best to ask in the Be forum about those.

Slight error in my post about Be email. I imply that the 2 per month extra gets you web space as well as email. It only gets you email it seems. Domain + email with Purple Cloud is 73p per month.
