[link to this post]

ok ive had enough of my poor speeds at 1meg while flat upstairs on AOL gets a steady 6.5meg at the same time both on up to 8 meg connections. so i wanna jack BT in, now they have also capped my speed now to 512k because of the stupid FUP because i use iplayer alot what a load of bull. So can you guys recommend a GOOD internet provider with stable speeds and also if possible no FUP i cant get cable in my area either, cheers for your help guys

A lot depends on who has unbundled your exchange. See http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php

Pity, no unbundling. For a light user I'd suggest NewNet. Otherwise I think you should look at O2 (unlimited, but who knows for how long) or one of the Entanet resellers (e.g. ADSL24,UKFSN, etc.).

That's a bit unlucky! Nothing very good there.

Your best bet is an ISP that is merely good. That is Entanet, who don't sell direct to the public. You use a re-seller - vivaciti, ukfsn or ADSL24 are three well-known on here and their people often help on here as well.

A lot of people have the 30GBpeak/300GB off-peak at 19.99, thought there are higher and lower options including faster uploads on the business packages.

Currently Entanet are having temporary congestion problems, but they are in the course of installing a considerable capacity increase.

They also have the ALT system which keeps things going smoothly under heavy load, though see above re the current problem. I think the ALT is one of the better traffic management methods around, given the fact that with the allowances you get for the price at Entanet are huge.

my main concern is the download cap on the FUP i like to download alot of demos, film clips music, stream on youtube, basically talking in the 200-400gb per month not all on peak of course.

That will cost the (non-LLU) ISP roughly 100 to 200 per month, which explains why you are perhaps not a treasured customer.

You could take a punt on O2 but if you want stability you may be better off with an Entanet reseller, provided you can learn to live within their peak/off-peak allowances.

I think Entanet and the resellers have decent details available. Have a look through the Entanet forums to get a feel and see which reseller appeals to you (they offer different add-ons to the basic package). Ignore the problems with 21CN which won't affect your exchange for a while (by which time let's hope they have been sorted).

I agree fully with John.

The only non-LLU unlimited package I know of is O2 Access at 17.50 if you have an O2 mobile or 22.75 if you haven't. Suffering a little at the moment from rapid growth outsripping capacity but almost certain to sort that out. Also have a 30-day money-back getout clause and the possibility of cash-back (See tinyurl link in the sig of recent posts bt MKD in O2 or Be forums on this site).

How long they can maintain "unlimited" on the non-LLU depends how long they are willing to cross-subsidise to support any heavy users I expect.

Have you looked at the new tbbMeter for checking usage in real-time? At the moment if you have a LAN it adds in the LAN traffic like most do, put it is planned to make it able to sort that out, and also to allow you to aggregate machines on a LAN via a dedicated web site.
