aol....problems...please help me

[link to this post]

hello,

well i got following problem....i moved to england from germany a few months ago to my dad....he is with AOL because of this free laptop in the contract...

since 2 months i am facing disconnection errors packet loses and high ping

for example if i go into my cmd and ping google my ping goes up and down...every 10-20 seconds i got connection timeouts

i have been calling the customer support for million times...they always asked me are there any extensions, is the I-light flashing, (various line checks) etc etc.
Everyday the same and that always at peak times...about between 4-12 o clock...even worse on the weekend
There has already been an engineer here twice telling me everything is fine with the line...there has got to be something wrong with AOL
well after calls and calls they sent another engineer who was looking at the exchange...(after 2 months of calling) he found a so called "black hole" and after a week they "fixed" it....
so it worked for a few days all right...and now the same problem is starting again....i get high pings when i play for example counter strike...my downloads are running slow as hell...i cannot stream any films or watch videos on youtube

so i called aol up again....the guy told me now that i just have a 2mbps connection...that was kind of suprising because the 5 milliion times calling them before they always told me i have a 8mbps connection....and with the 2 mbps connection it would be normal that it is sometimes slower sometimes faster...which could actually be....but not timing out and ping going crazy....
another strange thing is when i restart my router it works allright for about 1 minute and starts then to struggle again

here are some stats...i dont know if they are helpful

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 8192 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 14 db 4 db
Noise Margin 13 db 30 db

DownStream Connection Speed 8192 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed 448 kbps
VPI 0
VCI 38

i play online poker for real money and it is sometimes pretty much...i play online games as counter strike warhammer etc.....i download lots of stuff..... and with those disconnections and high pings it is just not possible to do that in a proper way

the thing is i am still in the contract for 12 months and paying 20 pounds each month....i dont want to know how much i paid for calling them up....

the question is...do i have any chance of quitting without paying? or is it not AOLs fault and should i call BT now for 5 million times? would a provider (isp) change help anything?
i might even thought of sueing them....

thx for help

greetings sebastian

Short line, lots of spare noise margin, so probably not a line issue, and looks like maybe LLU so BT would be little to know help, unless AOL booked them and even then they'd look at these figures and say that all was well.

You are probably just looking at the effects of peak time congestion and traffic management. AOL may suit people who just want web access/email, but for twitch type stuff a better provider is probably recommended. This may cost more depending on what LLU services are available in your area, and all depends on how much of the laptop contract is left.
