Moving from Sky to O2/Be - Worthwhile?

I'm keen to increase my line speeds and the Be website suggests I should be able to receive around 3.5mb from them.

How accurate is this likely to be? Sky is rock solid and my only real reason to move would be the extra 1.2meg or so I'd receive from Be. I don't want to move only to see no real difference in service speed.

For info, my router stats are:

Connection Speed 3008 kbps 416 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.0 db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 7.3 db 13.0 db

If that's Sky LLU not Sky Connect I would stay put. If it is Sky Connect I would move, but more likely to O2 than Be.

Thanks, it is LLU and I'm really impressed with it, but as ever some more horses under the hood would be good - particularly as I've just picked up an Apple TV and whilst the 2.2mb rate is fine for streaming SD content HD movies take 3 to 4 hours to buffer before I can watch them - I'd really like to bring that down.

That said, if you think the benefit would be marginal, I'll live with it.

Well I could be wrong, but that already seems a pretty high sync for 61dB attenuation and I would be scared of rocking the boat. Even though on O2 (not Be Value which has a 12-month contract) you have a 30-day money-back get-out you wouldn't be able to guarantee re-connection to the same Sky line card so who knows whether you could go back at the same speed.

See if any others say different .

I doubt that Be (not sure about O2) would accept an order for that line (given the attenuation). I'd stick with Sky.

I thought they didn't give estimated speeds if they wouldn't accept the order, though I did wonder about that earlier. Maybe they have changed the policy?

Yeah, that's part of why I'm loathed to experiment - my uptime on the line is regularly in the 800-1200 hour range and download speed is never (well very rarely) below 2500k.

As you say, we'll see if anyone pushes me the other way :-)

I've only checked on their website, so they probably don't have the line stats to take into account.

Another vote for staying with Sky. Only way to increase line speed is to lower the target SNR - and that would almost certainly lead to instability (no matter who you had as an ISP). Plus, if Be are quoting 3.5Mb and you are currently sync'ed at over 3Mb (as you seem to be) then it is only half a meg increase - not worth the hassle or cost.
