Which ISP's are doing WBC at the moment?

Hi there,

My exchange has just been enabled for WBC so i'm looking around to see which ISP's are supporting it, in the hope I can maybe give these faster speeds a trying.

Would appreciate any recommendations - i'm not a heavy user, reliability and low pings are more important to me.

I know Entanet for sure are a WBC provider . Andrews & Arnold i think and maybe Plusnet and of course BT .
Hopefully somebody a bit more clued up can answer your question fully , but WBC is still very new and im unclear of how its performing and who is actually installing nodes around the country , i know Entanet have invested in WBC infrastructure but unsure who else apart from BT

Just like your current connection is "up to 8Mbps" I expect, the faster ones are "up to 24Mbps". The increase in speed you may or may not get depends very much on how good your line is.

If you post your line stats we can give you a good idea of what you might get. If you don't know how to get them have a look here.

Also if you look up your exchange on this site and post us a link to the results that will help.

AAISP yes, Plusnet only trialling with some existing customers, BT not unless there is another page as well as this one.

So BT retail have not invested in nodes around the country , Only Entanet and AAISP have ?

Jezz got to be honest im still struggling with WBC and WBMC and who will actually adopt the new technology as its a big investment .

Interesting indeed. One would think BT Retail would be right up there as you did, but I haven't heard it mentioned. I don't know though.

AAISP are using WBMC, they have not built out to the 20 WBC nodes. I think only Enta are known to have built to the 20 nodes, everyone else /seems/ to be using BTwholesale to backhaul. Of course this is only going on publically available information.

Afaik the only WBC customers are Entanet and BT Wholesale (strange but one part BTw are a customer of another part of BTw). BTw are then selling WBMC to a number of different ISP's (but without the IPSC part of the service as thats not available until August), Entanet have bought IPStream Connect and are using it for their own service and selling a WBMC competative product.

For LLU providers there aren't many reason to go for WBC as the coverage for 24Mbps products pretty much matches their own LLU foot print, they will probably start to invest once the Market 1 exchanges start to be added.

As for IPSC, it not attractive to LLU providers as non-LLU providers get an additional (negotiated) discount to their Market 3 connections to make the price below that of IPStream CBC that they are not 'entitled' too.

Thanks for the info - I had been looking at plusnet but their new terms and conditions now mean their pro package is a 12 month contract, they can stick that where the sun dont shine. Been stung too many times with long contracts

That would be the thing plusnet are using for their new discounted on market-3 packages - before they used the footgun to blow in 12 & 18 months terms with no sane early exit clauses.

I hypothesized that the market 3 discount might be tied to a minimum term from ISP->BTW and that would sort of excuse the plusnet weirdness of going from 12 month (pay us for the setup & router, so really one month) to 12/18 month (pay the months sucker) escape clauses.
