Currently on NewNet Home Lite - shall I move?

[link to this post]

Hi guys and girls

For quite a few months now I have been going over the 3gb limit and having to pay extra for prepaid bandwidth.

I am now using close to 10gb per month and although I am very happy with the NewNet speed/service, I am wondering if it would be best to change my package or find another provider?

I realise I can regrade my package to Home M with 12gb for £17.56 per month but is there any better options for me?

If I were to change providers, I would prefer to have one with a 1 month minimum contract so I have the flexibility to move if things start going too slow or a better deal comes up.

I mainly do web surfing, e-mails and the occasional download.

My exchange is Market 2 with AOL, TalkTalk and Tiscali.

BT Speedtester results:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 1824 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1368 kbps

Any help greatly appreciated.

I'd be tempted to stick with NewNet for the time being. The obvious move would be to an Entanet reseller but they are having teething problems with BT's new 21CN systems.

TalkTalk are a possibility for your level of downloads, but there are obvious risks in being stuck on a long term contract.

Depending on the time of day you do thing you may find AAISP worth looking at. Note they have a three-way split of the day and don't count uploads where Newnet do:-

Peak and off peak

We measure the data sent from the Internet to you (download). We split the day in to peak (9am-6pm Mon-Fri), night (2am-6am) and off peak (all other times). We do not consider any data from you to the internet (upload) or the night period as part of your tariff. The tariff you pick says how much peak and off peak you can download during each month.

Bear in mind that the tariffs have very high off-peak levels such as 50GB or 100GB a month, and so for most people this is effectively unlimited.

Also I wouldn't completely rule out TalkTalk, but done through Carphone Warehouse. See this promotion. It really does seem to mean you only pay line rental for the first 12 months, then peanuts for the next six. Of course, if you left afterwards you may have a connection charge to any new ISP.
