Currently get 256k, should we change?

[link to this post]

My parents currently have a 256k ADSL connection (i dont know who with as yet). Would it be worth them changing their supplier as 256k is really not fast enough for them. I have looked on SamKnows, and they are 2.15k from the exchange (straight line), and approx 3k via roads. There always used to be a DACS thing on the line, but i'm assuming that can't be there any more as they have ADSL. Do you think they should try someone else? and if so, which would be a good supplier with good customer service and the fastest speeds. They don't need unlimited downloads or anything like that so a low cap doesn't matter.

Thanks

Which exchange is it? We need to be able to see what is available and samknows tells us.

Can you find the line stats from the modem/router? See here for help.

How much are they paying now? And who with of course.

I will try to find out who they are with soon.

Exchange: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/WNLED

Kitz:
Exchange: Ledbury BT Code: WNLED
Location: Lawnside Road, HR8 2AD
Distance:- Direct: 2.15 km
(appx)* By Road: 2.9 km

BT checker says (for postcode):
Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial check on your postcode indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our check also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 2Mbps.

BT checker says (for tel):
upto 2.5mb.

The line stats will be very useful if they can be found.

But I think for them the best bet would be TalkTalk Essentials.

The only drawback I can think of for them is that the phone line is completely taken over by TT, but my 76-year old brother joined them two or three years ago and is delighted.

If you want it for lots of P2P downloads then those are throttled! But at 256kbps now so what?
