Tried to phone customer services on their 08000363839 number this morning. message on line says their closed. Sales line opened though. Drives me mad when companies abandon existing customers.

Credit card companies are jointly responsible with the retailer if something goes wrong with a purchase. The goods or service purchased must cost between £100 and several £K, I think at least £20K . This comes from Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
Direct Debits and Debit cards do not involve credit and are thus outside the act.

If you are going to pass information at least make sure it is correct....
Ever heard of the "direct debit indemnity" or the Visa/Mastercard chargeback schemes ???? I guess not....
Both of which could come into play if the OP had paid in advance for the service and it was no longer being supplied. But if it was a monthly payment then it would depend on in arrears or advance.
Given that Fuel BB seems to still be trading (maybe OP misunderstood the message) and it was simply the department was not open at that point.
It seems to be a moot point anyway.
But CCA would not come into play if the OP was paying monthly unless the charge was over £100 a month. Even then the chargeback scheme would be the 1st option.
For future reference the upper limit on CCA is £30,000

Since the first reply I've been thinking we have no idea what the OP wished to speak to them about anyway. I don't understand how the question of card supplier clawbacks arose.

I agree with you.
It was the 2nd post in the threadby hk11, that prompted my question. As it was so clearly missing the point. It simply said something that was so wrong on many levels, without finding out the relevant information of costs.

I think it's always a good idea to remind people they often have a chance for recourse from the banks when they pay by credit card.

Very true.
But at least make sure that the facts posted are correct..... As you have just highlighted by not mentioning Debit Cards or Direct Debits. Which both have ways of claiming money back.
If the Op went steaming into his CC company he could well come away annoyed at bad advice.

The only person to have mentioned debit cards is you. I can't see why you're making a fuss, you asked the question then answered it.

And the OP hasn't told us why he wanted to call Customer Services. The card discussion could easily be completely irrelevant. It certainly can't reach an conclusion wrt the OP's problem, whatever that is or was.
A complete waste of time.

Clearly you don't get it....
Incorrect advice given is not good.
Even when asked, the person posting this advice, still failed to correct it. Even compounded it by getting the answer to the question wrong.
The reason for asking about debit card/Direct Debit. Was that is how most people will pay....
As has been pointed out this is getting off topic to the OP's post. Which was to say the least very vague and open to question as to if the company is trading still or simply not answering the calls in a certain department.

That isn't what happened. He was talking about credit cards. You asked the question about debit cards and then answered it.

Where was the incorrect advice? The statement made by 2 posters was correct. They just didn't mention debit cards.
Was Eclipse Home Option 1, VM 2Mb & O2 Standard
Now Utility Warehouse (up to 16mbps) via Talk Talk

HERE
In fact even hk11 1st post is factually incorrect. As it fails to note the range that CCA covers.
So people failing to mention there are other options. Is correct advice then?
