Vodafone Fibre

They are offering a very cheap deal with unlimited download. Has anyone any experience of their home broadband?

I have recently become a customer. I am near enough to the cabinet to get pretty much the maximum 38 Mbps service. I use my own VMG8924-B10A router. I was attracted by the low price which is much the same as I would pay for ADSL at a non LLU exchange.

I've just joined and this is my first day. I plugged in the Vodafone router at 6.30am and at 7.30am I was connected with no glitches.

The fibre box is directly outside my property so I am getting over 37Meg down and the router wi-fi signal has got a good range.

I am still connected when standing on the other side of the road with the signal going through an internal block wall and the outside cavity wall.

It's early days but looking good so far.

The traffic management was enough to put me off.

Some ADSL2+ lines limited to 19Mbps throughput, but it's not clear if this is because of the particular backhaul, e.g. some parts of their own legacy C & W one, BT Wholesale or other, and IWF blocks are observed.

That doesn't sound particularly onerous to me, but some people with above 19Mbps capability coukd be very irked.

Plus if course any court orders mentioning Vodafone or C & W are observed, but that is reasonable.

According to the document, on FTTC nothing is always blocked, or slowed down. There is an optional content blocking service for those that want it.

Did you read to the bottom? Right at the top we have:-

Are any services, content, applications or protocols always blocked on this product?** Y/N

At the bottom we have:-

**This excludes any service, content, application or protocol that an ISP is required to block by UK law and child abuse images as informed by the list provided by the Internet Watch Foundation.

The bit about restricting speeds (to 19Mbps) only applies to "some lines" on ADSL, but the document as a whole applied also to FTTC.

I left out the ** bit because it is a legal requirement and not really a reason for not using an ISP.

I could have been a bit more precise in my wording
