https://www.youfibre.com/ have installed in my part of town and have said they'll be providing service in my street soon. BTOR completed FTTH at my nearest telegraph pole a few months ago and it seems that YouFibre are somehow piggy-backing off of that, but if that's the case then how would that work?
BT's FTTH offerings are asymmetric at 900Mbps/115Mbps download/upload whereas YouFibre offer up to 7Gbps symmetrical speeds and are actually slightly cheaper for their full gigabit service, so I'd rather use them than BT and the other BTOR-dependent ISPs.
Does anyone know whether YouFibre are completely using their own fibre or are they using BT's?
And is anyone using YouFibre? What are they like and how reliable are they?
TIA

They are using their own network, but use Openreach poles and ducts to get it to you. So nothing to do with Openreach.
Up to 7,000Mb/s, wow, that is a fair bit of speed, I doubt any home user will ever need that.
I see they use the Eero routers, still not sure about those.
If they are coming to you, then go for it.

Can confirm, I can also confirm that all areas as of early next year will have 50G PON meaning services upto 50Gbps symmetric. Not too many details out there yet but spoke with Jeremy a little while ago about it so things should be progressing well.
Many Thanks,

I have my own Asus AX mesh setup already so I'd just continue use that, but the router they supply with their ridiculously high bandwidth services is a top-flight Asus gaming router that retails for £500!

Why would you need 50Gb/s?
i wonder why most people need 1Gb/s, apart from being able to.

Yeah, if it works then yes.
I am sure these router manufactures pout gaming on the name so they can charge stupid prices. I can imagine gamers, saying, WOW, a gaming router, we must buy that.

You say that, 1Gbps is slow when your working with 20+GB files, I regularly upload and download 80 Gig VHD files so even with a gig symmetric it feels slow.
I'm obviously extremely happy with it and can't complain but there are use cases. I know when I got back from holiday and did the usual holiday data dump the network was saturated for about 8 hours.
Forgot to mention that addiotnal editing and exported files contributed to that time, as did software updates and the usual onedrive re-syncs etc
Many Thanks,

I know, I remember it, but things these days are very different and yes I said the same thing when I was on FTTC.
Moradin was correct about everything coming down fibre, at the time of that post, I was still watching Freerview and DVD, I was renting DVD by post using lovefilm. Then when I started streaming ADSl was okay, but it was a bit iffy, that is why I went to Allpay wireless broadband. Not for great speed, but just enough to be able to stream reliably.
It did not work out so well with All pay not being able to cope, so in February 2015 I left and went to FTTC as that was just getting started here then. It was useful for downloading software. i was lucky that in the 9 years i was on it, i had good deals.
as most people here would know, I would have stayed on FTTC, but plusnet was pushing me to go onto FTTP, not giving me a decent deal on FTTC. So if i had to move to FTTP, I may as well go with a better network.
This is where we are now. Do I need the 500Mb/s I have now? Nope, not really, I was going to reduce to a slower speed when my contract was over, but I did not.
It has been useful, sometimes when I have redone the PC and some other machines.
Different times now as I said before, with more and more content being shown online, now I don't even watch normal TV, don't have the aerial connected. Most of what I watch now is online, apart from some stuff I watch on DVD/Blu-ray.
As for running software online, i have not done that and still would not do that.

You are no doubt one of the few that would make use of it, but the majority of people, would be using it for watching content or linking to their phones.
Not really 1GB/s speed stuff.

Thats true, I just looked up my Firewall logs and can see that i have used 64.69TB in the last 30 days, certinly not a small amount, with nothing really happening. The network sits at an avarage of 10Mbps idleing with my peaks of usage, e.g. last Saturday and Sunday i was avarageing 764.2969 Mbps over each 24 hour period.
Admitidly I did an offiste backup after updateing 28 Virtual machines to Windows Server 2025 so downloading the update on each one + running the backup before and after took a long time.
Many Thanks,

I can upload 20GB in about 3 minutes or so, that to me doesnt feel slow, I guess I am more patient than others.
Slow is when you need to leave something over night which I remember doing many times in the past in my ADSL and dialup days.
I cant think the amount of data you must be shifting to saturate the line for 8 hours, must be multiple TB's.

Just out of curiosity if you have 28 Windows VMs running locally aren't most of them disposable so you'd be maybe spinning them up off a golden image on demand?
If they aren't running locally and are production spread across a cloud or customer base wouldn't it make more sense for them to be backed up directly to wherever rather than you manually taking snapshots, downloading them then uploading them?
I've never seen this kinda thing anywhere whether managed services or home labs. Both dev and prod should be able to reach out to the Internet to back themselves up.

Howdy all,
I went live yesterday with YouFibre 1000 package / 18 mo. @ £ 29.99 !!! (Sub £30 quid & Symmetrical connection was the cherry on top..)
So far, so good.. tbh, I was a bit cautions about jumping over to an Alt-net provider.. I was expecting a boat load of hassle or issues regards engineer missed install dates, incorrect billing, you know the usual stuff you hear about happening to people when they switch..
But.. There was none of that! All went as planned, Excellent! (Billing info is all correct. & Spoke to an actual human on the phone to support)
Back to the Install.. a tidy team came to do the install at my home, in the middle of a snow flurry and bitter cold morning. All went smooth, one of the guys names was Ewan and was a really nice guy. They installed the Adtran SDX 631q 2.5gbe XGS ONT (Dual port) and I had the Arris NVG578LX Router. (I've swapped for my own kit)
Previous, to the move over to YouFibre I was with BTOR 1gig (~940/110mbps) it was ok
however, the Asymmetric part of the package always grated me up the wrong way.. (along with the hefty cost pcm.) and my contract was coming to an end with BT/EE so the timing was perfect!
As soon as they were in my area coupled with what i was hearing and reading about YF online, my confidence grew and I took the plunge..
Initially, I had to pump my own brakes and only ordered the "You 1000 package" before I upgrade tiers. YF was an unknown entity up until yesterday's activation.. Aside from the blistering speeds up/down they also have really good latency times, not the +20ms pings like my old BTOR line.. now ~5ms-10ms
The icing on the cake is that its a Symmetrical connection.. AND its better than HALF the price of my BTOR package, costed more and had slower speeds AND Youfibre cover the early exit fees upto a certain amount, its a no-brainer and BT just wont compete with that..
The only real niggle is having to rebuild my network, move a few things around my self-hosted services but its one of those good problems/jobs ive been putting off..
I'm going to see if I can maybe get assigned a small IP block away from their main clients/hosts ranges and pay whatever.. See, what can be arranged and what cant which is only a phone call away at worst.
YouFibre have really done a good job.. On a separate note, I am so glad to see some proper competition in my market area and the UK as a whole with other alts too..
- 7Gbps is a bit too much for me ( atm =) I think 2Gbps is the sweet spot and is priced well.

Top service all round from Youfibre! Was worried about latency but it's as good if not better than my BT FTTP.

Rather than me create a new post I was going to ask about what routers Youfibre have for the 1Gbps service.
I currently have a Asus router which is only a few years old that works great but runs hot, got it at the time as was on Virgin and wanted to have a dedicated router, currently with Vodafone and maybe in future going to attach a hard drive to the router.
If theirs is of similar quality I may use theirs, it's a pain right now to connect up a landline (basically I can't) and whilst I have all but stopped using one, it's useful to have one for times my mobile is unavailable or just in general if I know it's going to be a long call on hold i.e a customer service for a company I can just leave landline out rather than drain mobile battery.
Looks like they are a good company to go for, saving £13 a month compared to Vodafone going to them, which in itself was saving about £30 compared to what Virgin wanted for same speed.

They use an Eero device, I only have it to keep for use if any faults - It's pretty basic. Any router will work via DHCP - there is a 1hr lease time, so to switch over you need to power cycle and wait the 1hr.

I was supplied with their Arris router when I had the 1Gbps service installed a few weeks ago. I can't say much about it as it only came out of the box to prove the service worked and then went away again as I'm using my existing UDM Pro.

You will likely get a Aaris if you have the phone service, Jeremy is currently rolling out Sagemcom, it has been in the works for a good bit of time now, I met up with him last year and we discussed it.
If i recall the Sagemcom kit is currently WiFi 7 for the faster 8Gbps service to replace the Asus router they deploy for that level of service.
The lower tiers will likely be replaced next for standardization but from the sounds of it, it is only in some areas at the moment. I suspect they will use up the old stock first as its still decent kit and works well, at least in my experience.
Many Thanks,
