Currently with Airband - Are they a monopoly?

[link to this post]

I'm currently with Airband coming to the end of an 18 month contract after they put in fibre broadband to my area.

They keep calling to renew my contract but before I do, is it possible to change provider?

I seem to recall they have a monopoly for some period because they put in the line. When I said this to the Airband agent they said no it's not the case. But everywhere I use the postcode check comes up with no availability for my address (Sky, Wildanet etc).

Is there a way to check if I'm still tied down to Airband for a certain period?

I understand Airband are an altnet and therefore provide their own fibre - I suspect most ISPs will not be reselling the wholesale service. There is a page here that appears to allow you to search for resellers in your area.

For the most part few ISPs start reselling altnets because it means having a whole set of processes and procedures that are different to their other providers and so unless the altnet is really big then it is unlikely that many ISPs will be reselling it.

EDIT: I did try a random address in their coverage area but am getting an error when I search so it may be this search doesn't work.
