Reccommend me an ISP please urgentl!!

[link to this post]

Well, I am currently on Virgin.net on a 1MB connection but am seriously wondering if I am getting the maximum value for my money.

My old man signed up with Talk Talk but after reading the nightmare stories on here I am getting him to cancel and footing the bill for a fast and reliable ISP myself. Sod the cost, performance is whats important... what's the use in free broadband if it's complete pap?

Now the problem is... I live quite far from the exchange and am told I can get a 1MB connection max... however I hear that with this in lght maybe the best route would be going ADSL Max where I can then get a 3MB+ connection? I'm not a big downloader, so 30/40gb a month would be alright, I mainly game online and surf.

It's worth noting I bought a Belkin 7633 yesterday so can perform the manual SNR tweak to give me a couple of extra megs (I think, from what i've read).

My current line stats are:

Downstream/upstream

Noise margin 16.9 / 19.0

Output power 16.8 / 11.9

Attenuation 62.5 / 31.5

So folks, what do you think would be the best route go down?

Nidram, haven't heard of them but i'll keep them in mind.

Do you think ADSL Max is the best route to go then for a line like mine? Any in-depth tips or reccommendations?

(I'm the OP, just forgot to register initially)

With those attenuation figures I would think you will definately have to stick to a normal adsl, as there would be no advantage to adsl Max or adsl2+ both are likely to be highly unstable. there is an excelent chart one this website that gives details.

As I wrote in my previous post I think with your line attenuation stck with ordinary adsl as there would be no advantage to adsl Max or adsl2+ both are likely to be problematic and highly unstable.

there is an excelent chart one this website that gives details.

Hmm Nildram say this...

-----------------------------

Availability results:

Our tests indicate that your line, ************ on exchange EAST GRINSTEAD, should be able to support a potential ADSL Max Broadband line rate of 3Mbps up to 8Mbps.

The actual ADSL Max line rate supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use, after which time the highest stable rate possible will be set. If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

-------------------------

So I likely wouldn't see better speeds or any benefits with ADSL Max then? Do you think a 2MB regular ADSL conneciton would be possible?
