Ace Ping Question.

[link to this post]

Got to ask it here as I know this gets seen by the Ace guys. About time Ace got their own part of the forum

I am on Ace ul 2meg, the download speeds are more than 3mb pretty much all the time(which is nice) and the upload speeds aren't bad either. Yet when I play online(counter strike source) I have about the worst ping on the server, even compared to my friends 1mb BT broadband(his ping is about 10 and mine is 30)

Is this due to me still being in the training period or is it just the way it is. I have about the same ping as when I was on *shudder* Plusnet, which is a bit annoying.

When I was on UK Online 8mb I got a fantastic ping so I guess it isn't my line.

Any ideas?

A ping of 30 is the worst on the server??

Is interleaving turned on for your line?

What is the IP address of the CS server you use?

I know 30 isn't bad compared to what the pings used to be like but it is the worst on the server out of say 15 players, the IP is - 87.117.194.89:27015

I have no idea what interleaving is and if its turned on.

Hi

I've just run a test:

Pinging 87.117.194.89 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=123
Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=123
Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=123
Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=123

Ping statistics for 87.117.194.89:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 15ms, Average = 15ms

It may be that youhave interleaving turned on for your line. We set interleaving to auto, and if you line requires it for stability, it will turn on.

Interleaving can increase ping times.

It may well turn off after the 10 days are up, but it not, we can look at turning it off for you - but it would be at the expense of reduced speed.

Kind Regards

Steve

Is it normal that I am paying for an up to 2mb line and I am getting a lot more than that on downloads? Will it stay this fast or will it even out when the 10 days are up?

Very happy with the connection so far by the way, very reliable.

UK Online was very unreliable but like I said I had a great ping, so maybe interleaving was off with them, I had a low ping but I kept dropping out of games due to the connection going.

Cheers Steve, will have a look after the 10 days and see what happens.

Ain't like a lower ping will make me any better

Yes, but you will be reduced to 2Mb in the next few days

pings of 10 are only going to be for people who happen to live the closest to their exchanges and have ISP's close to the game servers.

Some ISPs pride themselfs in having very few hops beween gaming servers and your line, maybe you should look for one of them, because 25-30ms isn't exactly high, realistically the difference between 30 and 10 is negligable anyhow.

I get pings between 17-18 and 25-26 generally in CSS, it all depends how far the server is from your phsyical location.

I must be lucky then because I regularly get pings of 7-12 on CS:S. 20-25 on a bad day!

They were up to 90 tonight

If it is because I am so far away from the exchange(and I am) how come I got such low pings with UK Online? Is it the interleaving again?
