Is that on more than one server?

Being a far way from your exchange shouldn't really make much difference in ping times as such. The interleaving wouldn't have increased the ping times that much I don't think.

As for UK Online, I assume you used their LLU service? In which case, the LLU Providers generally have faster upload and/or less hops to servers etc.

Pinging 87.117.194.89 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=123
Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=16ms TTL=123
Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=17ms TTL=123
Reply from 87.117.194.89: bytes=32 time=15ms TTL=123

Ping statistics for 87.117.194.89:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 15ms, Maximum = 17ms, Average = 16ms

If you are getting 90's - it looks like it's either a interleaving (if turned on) or a side effect of the 10 day period.

Regards

Steve

Even if in the 90's that would be very high for interleaving, unless of course before interleaving they were getting 60 or 70ms

Well if we assume UK Online was LLU or it didn't have interleaving on then I was getting about 10-15 ping with them.

I am far from the exchange but my stats show I get a goodish upload speed, I should be getting around the max upload speed really, this also improves ping I think.

Ping response times if using 32 byte packets is hardly affected by the size of the upstream or downstream

What does that mean?

What does the 32 byte thingy mean?

I aren't too clever on technical things as you may of noticed.

It means if using a standard ping then an ADSL connection with a 64kbps upstream versus a 488kbps upstream is likely to ping with the same sort of times

Ping is getting worse, but download speed is quite steady now. Ping was the worst its been tonight on a couple of servers but the one I took screenshots on is - 85.133.16.49:27015

My ping was around 135 - 140 odd.

Screenshots - http://www.tremlar.co.uk/Demos/de_prodigy0002.jpg

I download and play stuff, so this isn't good at all when 50% of my internet use is well below par, please god let it be the training process.

Oh dear.

I just joined an empty DMC server and my ping was 26. My connection has been stable for quit a while and I migrated over to Ace today.

Must be your training process or contention at your exchange.

This is what I got from Zen.
5.79Mbps (741.6 KB/sec) down
0.68Mbps (86.5 KB/sec) up
Test done at 17:46 on Saturday 27th May 2006.
This is what I get with Ace.
5.95Mbps (761.7 KB/sec) down
0.67Mbps (85.3 KB/sec) up
Test done at 23:16 on Friday 9th June 2006.

I doubt it is the training process at all
