Very interested in ACE INTERNET

[link to this post]

Hi,
I'm new to this forum today, and was hoping some body could answer a question about ACE Internet.
I'm concidering switching to ACE (so much so I've ordered my MAC code today), but before I make the switch from pooex (Pipex) I wondered if ACE internet Monitor P2P and BITTORENT downloads?
Only asking as I've heard a few rumours of ISP's watching downloads and informing the authorties if Pirated material say was found.
I dont know if the rumours are true and I obviously would never download Pirate material and don't know anybody that would but I was just wondering.

Thanks
Andy

I'm not able to speak the gospel truth but can only speak for my opinion.

I doubt they are monitoring the actual content you download due to the man power this would take in working out legal p2p/bt traffic from illegal ... but its definitely something to think about in the long run.

From my experience in handling abuse tickets for server hosts, I tend to find that they are more targetted towards the people distributing the material rather than those downloading it IE, the seeds/torrent hosts... IE kill several birds with one stone.

As I said, I'm not able to tell you for definite but if any ISP was actively doing this, I'm sure we'd know as a lot of folks do download stuff over p2p/bt ....

Thank you for your Opinion I was jus curious as I said.
Also I have a friend who's a copper and he seems to think that it's only illegal to upload pirate material, and as long as the person who downloads it does not try to profit from it in anyway (ie selling films or music) it's quite legal? Don't know how true this is either.

Many thanks Andy

Nah, thats not true. It's illegal to possess it in general. But the bigger fish are the distributors and thats the people who typically get targetted most .. although the Americans have a thing about targetting people who download stuff for personal consumption ... some students etc got busted for it.

Whatever law they feel like slapping to you ... I was brought up to not download things I didn't legally own ... otherwise the naughty men in suits would come and get me. I'm sure theres probably loopholes etc ... but surely its not legal? - If it is, I stand almightly corrected and will begin a mass download!

When (many years ago, when broadband really *was* expensive) I was with Demon, I had an email from them telling me that I'd get the DMCA slapped on my ass if I continued to 'make available' a particular piece of software.

I can't remember with p2p software I was using at the time. Probably something rank like Limewire or Morpheus.

They were only passing the complaint on from someone else, so I kindly advised Demon to make the request of the original party that they take their DMCA and... you can guess the rest

Nedless to say, I did stop the p2p for a bit.

So, the moral is: Your ISP won't monitor your filesharing, but others *will*.

This is what I got from Zen.
5.79Mbps (741.6 KB/sec) down
0.68Mbps (86.5 KB/sec) up
Test done at 17:46 on Saturday 27th May 2006.
This is what I get with Ace.
5.95Mbps (761.7 KB/sec) down
0.67Mbps (85.3 KB/sec) up
Test done at 23:16 on Friday 9th June 2006.
