aargh !! i give up.

aargh !!! i give up. I've been looking at going back to broadband. Since being disconnected with the e7even debacle last year, i've stayed with dial-up - a 9.99 unlimited use account. But doing so actually changed my life - i suddenly found myself using free library broadband and even 50p/hr internet cafes. I've finally had to admit my addiction to the net and cave in to its siren song. So much so, i've decided to add web n' walk to my mobile phone and get broadband back for my pc.

And up to this weekend, after a lot of comparison, i'd got it down to Eclipse as the ISP of my choice. After looking at the current comments re. this LLU biz and speed degradation and reading that people are actually migrating away, i'm now very uncertain as to what to do. Incidentally, Plusnet had been my second choice and i've read negative comments about these guys too.

I looked at the Unhappiness forum and became even more despondant, seeing lots of people unhappy with lots of ISPs. I started to look at the individual ISP forums and found myself reading all sorts of negative issues. So now i'm even less certain what to do.

What do i want ?
no charge for a new connection ( I have no MAC - i'll stay 12 months min to get round this one )
2MB minimum up to 8MB connect
min 2GB usage
clearly reported monthly usage
option to change without a "regrade fee" to a different plan
costing no more than

That's what happens, and always did even b4 computers existed. See:-

Is it too much to ask for a Happiness forum where users can praise rather than lambast their ISP ?

Just not human nature. Remember Prince Charles a few years ago asking for newspapers to print good news? Didn't get far with that either.

No you don't, else you wouldn't be here

That's the only daft thing in your post. As you stand a good chance of making the wrong choice you need a monthly contract so you can get out free if you get really fed up - think of it like travel insurance, you prob pay that without worrying and that is even more of a rip-off.

The secret of deciphering the unhappiness forum is to see which ISPs figure on a regular basis and cross them off any potential list you may have
All ISPs have a problem or 2, and people [censored] about it, so try to pick one whose complainers are few and far between, and then visit their dedicated forum and both check that out for complaints and post any questions there

Hi

Look at Newnet on the forum index and see how many customers have unhappy posts. They offer monthly contracts and the MD is a member of the forum and makes regular contributions and invites users to respond. Lite user

I am not going to say if you should or should not go to Eclipse, at the end of the day that is up to you.
But if I took notice of everyone who had someothing against Eclipse I would have left ages ago, but for me, Eclispe works fine. for under
