That's not the scenic route, Ade. I'm 1.87km straight line distance from the exchange and the best that I can get is around 2.5Mbps, with a downstream attenuation of 61 dB.

I'm 1.55km from the exchange and have 63db line attenuation !!!!! BTW first told me my line was 9km!!!!! then it magicly shrunk to 4.4km...i'll think you'll find its the quailty of the cable not the lentgh.... i have aluminium in my run....... 2.5mbps (when I'm lucky....... ) and CONSTANT disconnections and only choice is adsl.... no cable/wirless in my area HELP!!!!! lol

I wouldn't say wrong. Its a bit of both, length being the main issue though.

I think that it does have quite a bit to do with it, I am 2.3 Km from the telco, but used to have problems getting a solid 512, when they gaves us new cable and poles (in my road) it jumped up to 3+ meg. Same route just new cable for part of the run.

Your exchange would have to be unbundled LLU capable to use BE
Check on www.samknows.com
If not may i recommend Merula

http://www.merula.net/

All the heavy downloaders use them.
They are totally unlimited as advertised
and with a 8mb connection you can quite easily download over 800gb a month.
They may seem a tad pricey at
