ISP for Torrents

[link to this post]

Hello,

I need an ISP which is not too expensive and does not cripple your torrenting speeds. I am on tiscali

How much are you willing to pay? Entanet do not throttle any ports. Their capacity is saturated at 10pm weekdays and weekends - not this weekend though... but apart from that you can download full speed on anything you wish.

Btw. If you are going to get Be in your area, you may as well wait for that. - Just don't expect 24meg. The max you will get is somewhere around 20meg and it goes down quite steeply when you get further away from the exchange.

I beg to differ on that point.
I myself sync 2kbps just under 24meg as 24 Mbps = 24 576 kbps.
I have seen at least 2 Be* users that have a sync of 24meg.

Look at my sig below.
My best UK speed is 24379kbps or 23.8076172 Mbps.
That is only 197kbps under 24meg

-------------
Be* unlimited Sync (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:1,321 / 24,574
ADSLGuide Speed 18.9Meg
USA Speed 14.75Meg
Best UK Speed 24379kbps

AJ121 - my godness me! 24Mbps speed - that was really fast! What is your line attend on downstream ? How far distance from the exchange to your house ? You are very lucky to have that speed - wish I swap with you.

I hope that Be Unlimited will be available at my exchange in the future but I doubt it.

I have tweaked my connection with a tool called DMT so that I can lower my SN Margin. This has had the effect of increasing my sync figure.

I also instructed Be* to change my connection to Fastpath (the advantages of fastpath, if you have a suitable connection, is it offers lower latency and faster ping times which for online gamers is important.) One side effect of this is that it may increase your speeds too, in my case it did.

Here are the stats from my router:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,321 / 24,574
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 15.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 10.0 / 22.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 7.0 / 2.0

I am, according to details on the net around 550 metres from my exchange (as the crow flies). But the line has to traverse a river and quite a few houses so god only knows the true distance of the line.

By the way these were my stats on AOL ADSL LLU "god thats a lot of acronyms" the night before I joined Be*

Statistics Downstream Upstream
Line Rate 8160 448
Noise Margin 17.1 dB 31.0 dB
Line Attenuation 14.0 dB 10.5 dB
Output Power 12.6 dBm 19.8 dBm

-------------
Be* unlimited Sync (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:1,321 / 24,574
ADSLGuide Speed 18.9Meg
USA Speed 14.75Meg
Best UK Speed 24379kbps

Crikey your line is really on the limit with such a small SNR margin

Do you suffer from a lot of disconnection problems on ADSL2+ (I assume that BE doesn't use SRA)?

p.s. great line stats though

They probably don't suffer many disconnections if any, being on a short line thats obviously very noise-free. If they did get a fair few disconnections I'd assume they'd higher the noise margin.

Like I said, I lowered the noise myself using the DMT tool.
As for disconnection problems, I have not had any "yet" nor any loss of framing. Here are the stats:

Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0

Now the moment I start to see errors in the above I will edge my SN Margin up myself to a level that eradicates the issue

Be has just been enabled in my city. I am 1.5km from the exchange and get 4000bps sync on adslmax (300k dl speed on a good http or torrent).

What kinda speed could i get do you think and would my zyxel Prestige 660HW-61 be compatible to use on their adsl2 service for 24mb speed.

Also whats the download limits, is it unlimited as in download say 200gb a month or more. Or is there a limit of 5gb lol.

So long nildram.
