Working from home in new home in Fulham from June 1st - need reliable ISP with super-fast download speeds (with unlimited usage preferably).
Also post large photography files to external proofing sites, so will need occasional high upload capacity speeds.
Have used Be before when first launched - suffered through the teething problems with the modem configuration but averaged 4Mbps. Currently using Plusnet and getting 2Mbps max despite 8Mbps bill.
Would settle for true 8Mbps service, but obviously anything higher/faster more reliable would be welcome.
Use service throughout day, rather than in peak hours.
Any constructive suggestions most welcome - either based on theory or on practical experience.
Cheers
From all this it seems on a BT max based product you can only get 2Mb download i assume you are a considerable distance from the exchange, especially if you were only getting 4Mb with bethere.
Therefore your best bet for pure speed is going to be either...
1. go back to bethere and live with 4Mb, if thats the fastest they can give you where you live and on a standard BT MAX product its even slower then 4Mb is probably the most due to your location that you are going to get in download terms.
2. For your uploading you have a few more choices though.... you could get a bonded MAX line, this should increase the upload rate for your photography files, but obviously it wont be cheap, speak to one of the etnanet provides about bonded broadband
3. Another alternative is have you considered renting a server monthly??? Again not cheap but once your photography files are uploaded on it the other end will be able to download them super quick with no hassle.
Finally just to clarify, if you are only getting 2MB with plusnet and only got 4Mb with bethere, then basically thats all you are going to get. You could get a dedicated 1:1 line but that will cost you hundreds if not thousands a month depending on what you would want in terms of speed, the provider, etc etc.
Another alternative that you may want to consider if its in your area is cable... virgins top speeds for download at the moment are 10Mb and anytime soon they are due to launch a 20Mb product, i think the upload rate on both of those services is something like 700k
