Alternatives to Nildram Broadband2

Hi all - I'm looking for recommendations to migrate my current service from Nildram - their upto 8MB Broadband2 product. The main reason I'm looking to move is it's just getting rediculous that it's taking me upto six hours to download 350MB TV show video files over uTorrent (all well seeded files) when my friend on AOL 1MB can get them in half an hour. An ISP with the normal fair use terms and absolutely nil traffic shaping would be ideal. I left Pipex about a year ago for much the same reason, and sadly over the last few months it appears Nildram have had this system applied on their network as well.

I am on a rural exchange with no LLU options, so it will have to be a BT Max provider. I'm currently paying

I think you will need to look at NewNet or the Enta resellers; they all seem to offer a solid service, particularly NewNet.

Why not AOL?

Isn't AOL a BT IPstream provider as well as being CPW? It was when they bought it, and there is a recent thread of someone going to TalkTalk for phone but keeping BT IPStream Max with AOL. See here.

From what I understand to connect to AOL you have to use their software etc - as I already have a router which acts as the gateway for our home network which all our computers use for Internet access, this seems far from an ideal solution.

Errr I dont think so, your friend is lying or you are mistaken.
Do the maths 350Meg on 1Mb is closer to an hour then it is 30 mins

Id say go to an Entanet provider, but first of all you might want to try encryption in Utorrent and also use the SecureIX service (google it ) that may solve the issues.

To be honest we need more info on what amount in gigs you do in a month to make a proper recommendation.

Torrent throttling is slowly happening with most BT MAX providers in one form or another, so if you are a heavy torrent user, you may be screwed, unless you are willing to pay around 70 quid a month for a closest thing to a proper MAX unlimited connection.

No, you can use your own router and they don't tie you in to a contract. http://info.aol.co.uk/broadband/nocommitment.adp
You just put your AOL username and password into your router and away you go.
