In reply to:I'm not well up on that, but I believe it is often a source of noise so may be the cause. I suggest you open a new thread in General Broadband Chatter specifically asking about that, as we are not really looking at Which ISP at the moment and you may find people answer a specific thread who wouldn't even pick up the question buried in the middle of this one. There is a dial-up alarm system fitted directly into the master socket.
Even if you want to move later, this problem will go with you. And once it is sorted you may be perfectly happy with Plusnet.
When you try the master socket, it is important to use the test socket inside it, (assuming it is an NTE5), as that removes the extension wiring from the equation. Extensions should be wired to the inside of the faceplate. If they are not, that in itself is incorrect.
Burglar alarm probably goes into the backplate - that's where I run out of knowledge as to what to do about it. What I do know is that sometimes extensions are wired using burglar alarm cable and that is a noise disaster.
